Looking into adding a 2003 server as a standalone server to the domain, then
DCpromo the server. My question is, Will the DCpromo do anything to
comprimise the existing 2000 AD Schema, or will it only affect the 2003
server. I don't need the headache of restoring the 2000 AD if the Promo will
mess it up.

Hi John,

Thanks for your posting here.

In order to add a Windows 2003 DC in the Windows 2000 domain, you need to
run ADprep.exe to extend the AD schema first. Then run dcpromo.exe to
promote the Windows Server 2003 DC.

Please refer to the following article.

John;
You need to prepare your AD first (Forest and Domain Upgrade) before
you add any 2003 DCs. Look at

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/technologies/directory/activedirectory/upgadc14.mspx

Good Luck;
