Hello

I'm trying to migrate printers from Windows Server 2003 (SP2) to Windows Server 2008 (SP1) using Print Migration Wizard's command line tool PrintBrm.exe. I've backed up the printers from 2003 Server and have got a .printerExport file. When I try to restore the file to a Server 2008 (or even Vista) I get errors.

Command lines I've used are:
PrintBrm.exe -B -S \\oldserver -F c:\temp\export.printerExport
PrintBrm.exe -B -F c:\temp\export.printerExport

On restore PrintBrm first lists all print queues, drivers and ports and after that outputs this:
-----
The following objects failed to install:

LISTING PRINT QUEUES
<queuename> Error: 0x80004005
Unspecified error
-----
This repeats for every print <queuename>. After that:
-----
LISTING PRINTER DRIVERS
<drivername> Error: 0x80004005
Unspecified error
-----
This repeats for every <drivername>. After that:
-----
LISTING PRINTER PORTS
<portname> Error: 0x80004005
Unspecified error
-----
This repeats for every <portname>. And finally:
-----
Check the eventlog for detailed information about the error which occurred.

The following error occurred: 0x8007007e.
The specified module could not be found.

I get the same results even if I back up with -NOBIN resulting in small migration file 4000 KB. Normal migration file is over 200 000 KB.

Something that might help:
- there are ~400 print queues on Server 2003
- Servers are Virtual Machines on VMware ESX.
- Server 2003 has Citrix binaries installed
- Printer Migrator 3.1 backs up 2003 Server but restoring the .cab on a test server (2003) crashes printmig.exe
- Unused drivers and ports have been removed from Server 2003

Looks like there is some problems with migration file.

I'm out of ideas, anybody help?

I have a similar error but under a different senario:

Win2003 R2 64 bit clusters. I can back up the printers from a virtual
server without any problems. I can restore the printers to a standalone
Win2003 R2 64 bit or Win2008 64 bit server.

Iget the error when restoring to another virtual server in the same or a
different cluster.

Figured this out finally. Problem was print drivers (not a big surprise). There were certain language monitors which caused this error and PrintBrm logged these errors on Application log. Updating or deleting the problematic drivers solved the problem.
