I'm using subinacl to replace permissions on a directory and it does
work fine

subinacl /subdirectories c:\testfodler /replace=oldgroup=domain
\newgroup

It does find and replace as it should. It however doesn't replace
permissions on the root folder. Is there a way to replace the
permissions on the root folder and the subfolders too?

Thanks for your help

Tom

Hi,

Thanks for posting here.

From your description, I understand that you have used Subinacl.exe tool to
replace subdirectory permissions successfully. Now, you would like to know
how to replace the permission of subdirectory and root folder. If there is
any misunderstanding, please let me know.

I have built an environment with Windows server 2003 R2 Enterprise edition
to run Subinacl. Based on my test, we have to replace the permission of
subfolders and root folder permissions respectively. To do so, please run
the following command one by one:

subinacl /subdirectories c:\test\ /replace=Old user=New user
>> Replace subdirectories' permission under test folder

subinacl /subdirectories c:\test /replace=Old user=New user
>> Replace test folder's permission

Please note that the first command includes '\ ' along with c:\test, but
the second one doesn't.

Sincerely
Morgan Che

Morgan,

Thanks for the reply; it does work fine on a 2000 or 2003 box. The
replace gets changed at the root and all the subfolders are also
changed.

What is really odd is that on an NT server box the replace doesn't
flow down to all the subdirectories. It only goes down 1 level and
doesn't change anything below that first level. I downloaded a
version of subinacl for NT from another website. The project I'm
working on involves finally getting rid of the last NT file servers.

The command is the same and it should work on NT the same way but I'm
not sure what the issue is.

Thanks
Tom

" Windows XP Professional
" Windows Server 2003, Web Edition
" Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition
