Hi,

I have following suggestions:

1. Install FSRM on another computer to see the results.

2. Check following files' size:

DFSEXT.dll
Srmsvc.dll

thanks.

I installed the FSRM on an identical computer with windows server 2003 r2
loaded with same options from the same CD, except this server was not a
domain server. FSRM started fine from this server. I examined the files that
you mentioned. Srmsvc.dll was identical, Dfsext.dll was the identical version
and modification date, but the size was almost double 69KB instead of 42KB.
I copied the smaller file to the first machine and all appears to work. (So
far at least)
I can only guess that the DFS Ext library somehow became corrupted.

Thanks for your assistance.

I believe I have figured out what happened. The first time I installed the
role I think I may have used my x64 disks. When I re-installed, MS must not
rewrite the dll if the dates and versions match. I am not positive this
happened, but I checked the DLL size from the X64 version and it matched the
bad dll.

Thanks again
GS

Hi, I was following this thread, and found I did the same thing (serves
me right for asking a customer to insert a cd...).

I fixed my issue that prevented the service from starting, but now
cannot get my snapins for File Server Resource Manager to work. I'm
getting a "Unable to connect to the File Server Resource Manager on the
computer MYPCNAME. The File Server Resource Manager service is not
installed or the network path cannot be found."

The FSRM service is started, as is DFS, FRS, and I can manually start
the FSRM Reports Manager, without errors, however, I was getting these
errors in the Application log before I copied some dlls from my other
working R2 FSRM DC:

The storage reports repository will not be included in the File Server
Resource Manager backup because the service failed to retrieve the
repository locations.

Source: SRMSVC
Event ID: 8196
Type: Warning
The storage reports repository will not be included in the File Server
Resource Manager backup because the service failed to retrieve the
repository locations.

Error-specific details:
Error: (0x80045316) The File Server Resource Manager service
encountered an unexpected error.
Check the application event log for more information.

Source: SRMSVC
Event ID: 6
Type: Error
File Server Resource Manager Service error: A critical component
required by the File Server Resource Manager Service is not registered.
This might happened if an error occurred during Windows setup. The
error returned from CoCreateInstance on class with CLSID
{efbdb74f-5b0d-4ad8-9aaf-aae0c8840a30} and Name 'SrmReportManager' is
0x80040154, Class not registered

It would appear that some files that were expected are no longer there.

Any suggestions?

Matt

I am having the exact same problem as pcnorb is. Any updates or input from
anyone on this? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Is
there directions on how to manual delete the installation to ensure a good
fresh install?
