I wanted to confirm what I read on Wikipedia, the only place I found my
question ("Can I run Windows 2003 Standard on my Windows 2008 Standard box,
using downgrade rights?"). Wikipedia states that I can, but I wanted to
confirm... I also saw for on Wikipedia that MS allows this same
virtualizaiton on Windows 2003 as well, I knew this was allowed for R2 but is
this also allowed for Windows 2003 Standard?

Thanks!!! If I posted this in the wrong place, please point me in the right
directiion... First time using the news groups... Appreciate the help, thanks.

per Wikipedia: "Microsoft treats each VM as a physical server with the same
number of sockets as the underlying hardware. On its own, this would be a
powerful deterrent to virtualization. Higher-end versions of Windows Server
2003 include licenses for extra virtual instances of the software on the same
CPU--one on the Standard Edition, four on the Enterprise Edition, unlimited
on the Datacenter Edition. The same will apply to Windows Server 2008. All
Microsoft server licenses also include downgrade rights, meaning a virtual
instance can be replaced by Windows 2000 or Windows NT."
