Hello,

I have been recieving a flurry of these error messages every day on one
of my DNS servers. I have been unable to locate any KB articles that give a
little better explantion on this error. I did see a note about this
possibly being generated by some of the security scanners such as Retna or
SARA but I am unaware of such things being run on the network. I seem to
get messages like this for a small block of time during the day and then all
is quite. Can anyone point me to a little more information on this event
log entry?
Source: DNS

Catagory: None

Event ID: 7050

The DNS server recv() function failed. The event data contains the error.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Do you have Advanced logging enabled on the Debug Logging tab?
If you do this can cause 7050 errors due to all the log writing DNS must do
to write these logs. There is a KB on this but I can't find it right now.
Disable this extra logging.

Actually I did notice that mentioned on the newsgroup. I currently have
nt logging enabled. The checkbox of "Log packets for debugging" is
currently not checked.

Unless you are noticing problems you should just ignore this event. It can
happen under load (and perhaps at other times) but should not actually cause
any end-user problems.

Hmmm, is there any chance that I can get a good description of what this
event log message means? Also if this is based upon load on the machine
will a little more network bandwidth help or is this driven by system
performance etc...

If I could tell you that I would make the event say something useful. :)

All I can tell you is that if you aren't experiencing real DNS problems,
don't waste your time trying to figure this out.
