No luck, I only seem to get it at startup. I can do the Group Policy update
and it works fine.

Can we see an ipconfig /all from the DNS/WINS server (10.1.1.99) and from
10.1.1.141 please? That may give us a better start to diagnose this.

Thanks

CPU 1 is getting the Event Errors on seeing the DNS at start up. This
Computer was joined to an NT 4.0 SP6 domain "ENGDOM". I went to "Computer
Name" and Change domains to the "eei.local" domain on the 2003 server. I
even tried goto a Workgroup from "ENGDOM" and then join the 2003 domain. But
I still get this Event Errors at start up.

CPU 2 is a Clean install (different Hardware) that I join from workgroup to
the 2003 Domain "eei.local" and get no Event Errors.

This seems to effect any machine joined to the NT 4 domain will get the
Event Error at startup while a fresh install works fine. All machines are
getting their IP addresses from the 2003 server.

I really don't want to have to do a fresh install on all the machines. I'm
going to have enough trouble with not being able to tranfer the user
profiles

Sorry I took to long to respond. You have two NICs with IPs on the same
subnet. Are they "teamed"? If not, this can cause issues, especially since
one has a gateway and the other does not.

For Kerberos failures, for starters, I would make sure that the clocks are
all synched within 5 minutes of each other. What is in your Event Logs?

Don't know what teammed means so I would say no.

I may have sovled the problem or at least a workable solution. After
searching around I notice it had something to do with NETLOGON time. I
tryied to delay it with little luck I could get rid of the Error message but
caused other errors. I finally came across a fix for NT which suggested
uninstalling TCPIP and reinstalling it. Since, I could do that under my
network card, I just uninstalled the whole card and it worked. On the next
machine I just updated to a newer driver and that worked. On the next
machine I'm just going to reinstall the current driver and see if that
helps.

No errors on Kerberos in eventlog. But this is easy to fix by joining a
WORKGROUP and deleting the Computername from the server. Then adding the
ComputerName back to the server and rejoining the domain. Don't know if that
the correct solution but it works. See my other replys about my possible
solution to my problem, which I don't know if it cause this problem too.

When you resolve your domain name does it resolve only to a Domain
Controller's IP address on an interface that has File Shring enabled?

Can you access the SYSVOL DFS share by your domain name? i.e.
\\domain.com\SYSVOL

Can you also access the Group Policy location by your domain name? i.e
\\domain.com\SYSVOL\domain.com\policies

Is your Domain name a single-label name? (domain vs domain.com)

If hh.hrm.lan is the domain name then DNS is not the issue.
What OS is giving you the error?

You can also see userenv errors if the DC is multihomed, or if you have an
incorrect DNS in the DNS list.

It seems like mostly my XP machines are the issue and yes I am seeing the
userenv error in my event logs. I even see it on my DC which is a 2003
server. I looked at my DNS list and it looks correct as well.

I am baffled by this!

Scott are you switching domains? One thing I found to help is to reinstall
the driver for the network card on client PC (XP Pro for me). This did away
with Event Log Errors of not seeing the Domain (don't know why but it
works). No I just need to figure out why I keeps lossing and the gaining my
Kerbros when I do a Netdiag

I would have guessed it was XP, there is an issue with the Web Client on XP
causing slow access to the DFS share. This was corrected on SP1, have you
installed SP1 for XP?

Is your DC multihomed?
Are you using the DC only for DNS on all machines?

Not sure what you mean by multihomed, but I have three DNS servers
internally. One hosts DNS for hrm.lan, one for hh.hrm.lan, and one for
ht.hrm.lan. All are DC's as well. I have one 2000 server that host DNS for
our public domain name. All the other DC's I spoke about act as secondary
dns for each domain so that I have redundancy thoughout the company.

Hope you understand what my configuration.

Thanks!

Multihomed means multiple IP addresses, which is complicated even more if
you have multiple NICs on multiple subnets.

Is hh.hrm.lan and ht.hrm.lan child domains for hrm.lan?

hrm.lan should have delegations named hh and ht in it going to the DNS
servers that have the zones even if the zone is on the same DNS server. The
delegation keeps the hierarchy working.

As I said if any DC is multihomed it can cause communication to fail.

No I do not have anything setup as multihomed. I have 1 NIC in each machine
using just one IP address.

Yes hh.hrm.lan and ht.hrm.lan are child domains.

Yes I do have the 2 child domains setup in my hrm.lan dns as delegation.

Seems like I have everything that you mentioned set right. You think there
might be something else?

Thanks

With a delegation, provided that they were delegated properly, the child
domain's DNS server should be the only DNS that the child domain clients
will use. You want to also set a search suffix for the parent domain if it's
not already auto set. Then in the child domain's DNS server, set a forwarder
to the parent domain's DNS server.

255248 - HOW TO Create a Child Domain in Active Directory and Delegate the
DNS Namespace to the Child Domain:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=255248

Now if you are using all 3 DNS server IP addresses in all your clients, then
I can see why you're getting mixed results. You need to only use the DNS
server that was delegated for the child zone for the child clients.
Otherwise, make sure a copy of all your zones are on each DNS. But what I
see is you have delegation and provided it;'s configured properly, it should
just work.

If the clocks say the same time but they are in different time zones, then
that would cause a problem since Kerberos has a 5 minute skew policy.

Well, yes you can, since they all have copies of everything.

You would still individually forward out to the ISP's.

The secondary zones I am talking about are strictly for my internal DNS. I
have another DNS server on the network that handles all my External DNS. On
my internal DNS servers would I put forwarders pointing to my external DNS
server, or just enter in the IP of my ISP DNS? My external DNS server syncs
with my ISP's DNS to keep ip updated with my external DNS and basically acts
as a secondary zone for my External DNS.

Hope that makes sense!

Yes it does, so you may as well forward to your own external DNS.
