My ISP has given me an MX record to add to our DNS so that our mail is
backedup by them in teh event our mailserver ios down.
We need to make their MX record a higher priority than ours and they then
store and send on the messages to our mailserver over SMTP as normal.
Now none of this is a problem, but my domain is example1.com (for example),
and theirs is example2.com, so when I try and add an MX for their mailserver
cluster I am told I can't because it isn't on our domain.
How can I get round this, or can't you add MX records for other-domain
servers?
Thank you
Excuse me, you're saying that you open the DNS management console
for the windows DNS, select your zone, select add record, select the MX
type, leave the name blank and enter "mx.example2.com" and the DNS
refuses to add the record ? If so, then either you are NOT using the
windows
DNS management console or you are entering wrong infos for the MX
Hi ObiWan,
Haven't seen you in a quite some time! Hope all is well.
It is possible that "K" is trying to create a cname MX record in Windows
DNS, however it's difficult to tell with the description provided. I would
suggest for K when creating the MX record, to leave the hostname blank, and
type in the FQDN of the hosting company's mail server in the bottom box.
Otherwise, it may help if we can see a screenshot of the steps being
performed. K, if you can screenshot what you are seeing, and post it to
http://skydrive.live.com, that would be helpful.
