Hi,
So you have promoted you server to domain controller.
Have you very the event viewer for any error. Verify that your DNS is
configured correctly with SOA and Namespace record and A record.
You must point DC DNS address point to its own IP address. Configure all
client DNS IP address same as DC. If you client want to resolve external
name then use forwarder on DNS. If your DNS is root domain you can not use
forwarder so you have to delete the root domain (.).
I think this will help you.

Adminstrative Tools---Manage my server----Add a role. And the Configure Your
Server Wizard window came up and I choose configure this server using:
Typical configuration for a first server (which was the first option) and
click on next and automatically, in the AD domain name, it shows my
ABCSYSTEM.local and I kept accepting the default names that was shown in all
other fields (DNS domain name and NetBIOS domain name).

name for your internal domain name (e.g abcsystem.com, instead use
abcsystem.local for AD).

Windows 2000 server as well that will be part of the domain and have XP/2000
