I am receiving the following event in a xp workstation in
a Server 2003 environment:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: DnsApi
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11165
Date: 3/20/2004
Time: 7:12:31 AM
User: N/A
Computer: EARTH
Description:
The system failed to register host (A) resource records
(RRs) for network adapter
with settings:

Adapter Name : {xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx}
Host Name : name
Primary Domain Suffix : domain
DNS server list :
dns ip, dns ip
Sent update to server : <?>
IP Address(es) :
client ip

The reason the system could not register these RRs was
because the DNS server contacted refused the update
request. The reasons for this might be (a) you are not
allowed to update the specified DNS domain name, or (b)
because the DNS server authoritative for this name does
not support the DNS dynamic update protocol.

To register the DNS host (A) resource records using the
specific DNS domain name and IP addresses for this
adapter, contact your DNS server or network systems
administrator.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Data:

It doesn't appear that the client is registering in DNS.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you are not in an uplevel domain then uncheck the box that tells it
to register the adapter with DNS, found on the DNS tab in the Tcp/Ip
properties.

If you are in a W2k or later domain and do want the client to register
with DNS then set the primary domain suffix correctly, "domain" is a
single label and so likely not the actual DNS suffix for the domain.
Also, if you do want registration, make sure you are using the correct
DNS servers for the AD, as the one(s) you are now using cannot find
the DNS zone for your current DNS suffix.

breffkin <anon...@discussions.microsoft.com> posted a question
Then Kevin replied below:

Do you have your ISP's DNS in TCP/IP properties on the NIC?
Post unedited ipconfig /all please

So when you read this, did you think to check whether either applied ?
