hello
i want to register a domain name for my school, so that we can use it to
host our website and also setup a mail server for the school, i have setup a
dns server(local but forwards to my isp)

i gave those in charge of the registration, the doman name i want to use and
the public ip they should map to,

domain name: myschool.edu.gh
ip: 212.xxx.xxx.xxx

but they wrote back to tell me that

"The GH Registry requires two nameservers for every domain. The name servers
must also be the fully qualified domain names and not IP address (es).

Please advise therefore if the IP address supplied below is the IP of the
server hosting website or otherwise."

can somebody please explain to me what they mean, and how do i setup a dns
server so that i can host our website and setup a mail server
thanks

Regards

Francois,
You do not need to set up a DNS server in order to host your web site and
set up a mail server.
All you need to do is to use the registrar's DNS to:
- set www.myschool.edu.gh to 212.xxx.xxx.xxx
- set the MX record for the domain to your mail server address.
Usually you can do this by logging on to your account on the registrar's web
site and editing your own DNS records. Or else you can e-mail them. But you
confuse them b asking to run your own DNS.
Hope that helps,
