I have a small network with two 2003 servers - one is the PCD running AD and
DNS - in the "network settings-local area connections-TCP-IP-DNS" for this
server I have the DNS setting pointing to itself - the IP of the server. My
question relates to my second server, which is also running 2003, AD, and
"hopefully DNS". Currently it is a secondard domain controller with it's
"network settings-local area connections-TCP-IP-DNS" setting pointing to the
1st PCD-DNS server. What DNS IP setting do I assing when I install DNS
server? Do I point this DNS server to itself like I did on the primary??

Yes, point it to itself.

In news:B05513FE-AD0C-442F...@microsoft.com,
Jack Ryan <Jack Ry...@discussions.microsoft.com> posted this:

Configure TCP/IP properties on the DCs to use both IPs for DNS.
This will guarantee at least one DNS server is available at start up so long
as the DCs are not simultaneously shutdown. You should always have at least
one AD DNS server always up.
