I ran "adprep /forestprep" on the Schema Operation Master (W2K DC), and
"adprep /domainprep /gpprep" on the Infrastructure Master (W2K DC). I
promoted a Windows 2003 Server to become the first Windows 2003 DC. I then
installed Active Directory DNS on it. But the DomainDNSZones and
ForestDNSZones are missing on this new Windows 2003 DNS server. Am I missing
something??? Please help!

Hello JT123,

After an upgrade from 2000 DNS to 2003 DNS this is normal behavior, check
this one to reconfigure them:

Thanks for your info, Meinolf! I have to wait until I finish upgrading all
the DC to Windows 2003 before trying out the info that you sent. Instead of
following the info from your link, can I create the "Default Application
Directory Application" from the DNS Console? Are they the same thing?

Thanks,

Jay

Hello JT123,

Which part of the document do you mean, i can not see any part that is not
done with DNS console except the netlogon, the network card configuration
and ADSS.

Sorry, it was my mistake.

Do I really need the ForestDnsZones and DomainDnsZones in order for Window
2003 Server AD DNS to work?

Hello JT123,

The partitions store the DNS part either from the forest o the domain and
replicates this between the servers. I am not sure but if you work with child
domains, then the configuration should be like in th document to minimize
replication traffic.
I also have upgraded some weeks ago and have no problems with running it
like after the upgrading.
