The domain name DOMAIN might be a NetBIOS domain name. If this is the
case, verify that the domain name is properly registered with WINS.
If you are certain that the name is not a NetBIOS domain name, then
the following information can help you troubleshoot your DNS
configuration.
The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service
location (SRV) resource record used to locate an Active Directory
Domain Controller for domain US3:
The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)
The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.DOMAIN
Common causes of this error include the following:
- The DNS SRV records required to locate a AD DC for the domain are
not registered in DNS. These records are registered with a DNS server
automatically when a AD DC is added to a domain. They are updated by
the AD DC at set intervals. This computer is configured to use DNS
servers with the following IP addresses:
10.0.0.1
- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its
child zone:
DOMAIN
. (the root zone)

But I am certain it is a NetBIOS name and thus the only direction the
dialog gives is: "If this is the case, verify that the domain name is
properly registered with WINS." So in the WINS MMC I look at my
Active Registrations and this is what I have:
Record Name (Type)
-------------
--__MSBROWSE__- ([01h] Other)
DOMAIN ([1Bh] Domain Master Browser)
DOMPC ([00h] Workstation)
DOMPC ([20h] File Server)
DOMAIN ([00h] Workgroup)
DOMAIN ([1Eh] Normal Group Name)
Not really knowing how to interpret any of this, I went ahead and
tried creating a New Static Mapping of type 'Domain Name.' I set the
computer name as 'DOMAIN' and added the IP address for DOMPC. This
didn't seem to help.
Any information or advice is welcome.
Thanks

The NetBIOS domain should already be registered in WINS, the Domain
Controller should have a [1Bh]Domain Master Browser, a [1Ch]Domain
Controller and a [1Eh] Normal Group Name WINS records registered. If it
doesn't make sure the DC points to itself (only because WINS servers must
point only to themselves) if it is a WINS server or to other WINS Server(s)
the run Nbtstat -RR from a cmd prompt.
You should also install the support tools from the CD and use netdiag in a
cmd prompt to fix and test your network configuration on the DC and
workstations.
If you run netdiag /test:NbtNm /v on the DC you should see under the per
interface results these NetBT records:
<DCName> <00> UNIQUE
<NetBTDomain> <00> GROUP
<NetBTDomain> <1C> GROUP
<DCName> <20> UNIQUE
<NetBTDomain> <1B> UNIQUE
<NetBTDomain> <1E> GROUP
<DCName> <03> UNIQUE
<NetBTDomain> <1D> UNIQUE
..__MSBROWSE__.<01> GROUP
BUT, you must have all the clients using the DC for DNS (only)
