DNS & DS registration issues

Have a 2003 server with AD & DNS running on it. We are
getting ready to install Exchange 2003 on the machine. In
preparation we are running the recommended DCDIAG tools
to ensure proper configuration.

The DCDIAG registers several errors which we cannot
figure out how to fix or if they have a real impact.

1 - the GUID name isnt registered correctly with the DNS,
however the server name is correct. Says we need to check
that the IP address is registered correctly.

2 - It is skipping all test becuase it says that the
<server> is not responding to DS requests.

It seems obvious that there is a configuration error but
for the life of us we can figure out what or how to fix
it.

We need to get this going so that we can start testing
our application.

Can you post an Unedited ipconfig /all please?

Are you pointing to ONLY your DNS server? This means no ISP servers. If
using an
ISP's DNS, that will cause numerous other problems. If Internet resolution
is required, recommendation is to use a forwarder, as shown how to here. If
the option is grayed out, remove the Root zone, also shown how to here:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=300202

Is the domain name a single label name or is it of the correct name, such as
domain.com and not just DOMAIN?

Are updates set to at least YES on the zone?

Is your Primary DNS Suffix set to the AD domain name? THat should be the
same name as your zone name in DNS.

Thanks for posting both the DCDIAG and ipconfig.

The ipconfig actually looks good and Primary DNS Suffix is correct format.

Some questions:

1. Is the AD DNS domain name qualnetics.biz? (As it shows up in your ADUC).
2. Is updates set to at least YES on the zone name in DNS?
3. Is the DHCP Client service turned off?
4. Is the F&P Services unchecked in NIC properties?
5. Is the MS Client Service unchecked in NIC properties?
6. Is the "Register this connection" setting in NIC IP properties, Adv, DNS
tab, unchecked?
7. SP4?
8. Make any changes to the reg lately OR does this key exist?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Disabl
eDynamicUpdate
If so, what's it set to?
0 means to register
1 means not to.

I've seen in some cases that when you delete this key, it works. Even if it
was set to 0. Don't ask why....

BTW- Any errors in the Event Log? Post the Event ID #s please.
