I know there is a utility to tell what shares/folders a specific user
account or group has access to. I am trying to do some auditing on my network
and need to clean up some shares.

Hi,

Well if you know of a utility, I bet a lot of people here would love
to also know.
You can try perms.exe which is part of the W2K3 resource kit
This tool will display user access permissions for a file or directory
on an NTFS file system volume

Good luck

The biggest issue with something like DumpSec is that it doesn't show
effective permissions. The groups and users you will be looking for
may not have explicitly defined permissions, but may have permissions
from being members of groups that have permissions. This kind of
calculation is beyond a freeware tool. Scalability and reporting are
big drawbacks too with freeware utilities. Dumpsec is good, but
limited. A product like Enterprise Security Reporter will discover all
of your file server into a centralized SQL Server database and let you
run customized reports against this data.
