I'm still getting the above-mentioned error with my server - any ideas?

The error appears whenever I try to launch the "Active Directory Users and
Computers" applet. The server is a domain controller in the domain.

Note: The error also appears if I convert the server to a member server,
then install the Admin Pak, then try to run the "Active Directory Users and
Computers" applet.

Hi Brian-

If you do the command "DCDIAG /V, what tests does this machine fail?
DCDIAG.EXE is installed with the Support Tools.

Hi Tim:

I ran DCIAG /V on the problematic DC, and it failed the "systemlog" test.
However, when I tried running DCDIAG /V on another, working DC, it also
failed the same "systemlog" test, so I'm not sure how significant the result
of that test is.

The systemlog test will commonly fail with no actual problem to be concerned
about. What happens in a NETDIAG /V? Any failures in that?

Got these warnings:

[WARNING] At least one of the <00> 'WorkStation Service', <03> 'Messenger
Service', <20> 'WINS' names is missing.

[WARNING] You don't have a single interface with the <00> 'WorkStation
Service', <03> 'Messenger Service', <20> 'WINS' names defined.

[WARNING] Failed to query SPN registration on DC '(servername)'. (for each
server in the domain)

I managed to clear up the first two warnings by removing some entries from
the WINS database and starting the Messenger service on the DC. However,
the problem still exists - I keep getting that '0x80040e37' error every time
I try to run the Active Directory Users and Computers applet.

What does that '0x80040e37' code mean anyway? I couldn't find it in the MS
Support site.

Hi Brian-

Could you check the registry key below and verify that it has the
"(Default)"
value set to "LDAPNamespace" as a string value?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ADs\Providers\LDAP should have

Ah-hah - I think that might be it! When I checked the registry on the DC in
question, there was no value set for "(Default)". I set it to
"LDAPNamespace", and the problem seems to have been cleared up - the Active
Directory Users and Computers applet now works as expected.

Thanks a lot!
Brian
