powershell doesn't like fast typing?

If I try and change the drive in powershell by typing D: <enter>
it will change to the D: drive.

However if I type the the three keys very quickly it will come up with a
>> prompt and I have to press enter again.

Any idea what's wrong? I do like to type fast and this problem is an
annoyance.

Here's some example output:

those with the >> I've typed "too fast".
