System Standby on Encrypted Network

I have a Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG nic in my laptop and I am using a
Linksys BEFW1S4 ver.4 wireless-B Router (w/ most current firmware
1.52.02). I have set up WPA-PSK authentication and everything works
fine until the laptop goes into system standby and powers down. At
that point the only way I can get back on the network is to reboot the
computer. Is this normal? If not does anyone have any suggestions?
