Since installing SP2 I am unable to use my wsftp client and internet
explorer chokes on some sites reporting that they need a user and password.
All the sites I've tried are anonymous access with email address as the
password but I can't get in.

I tried the command line ftp client and found I can use that but I can not
use IE or wsftp.

Any ideas?

Normal mode FTP uses listening ports on the client. The firewall blocks
these. You either have to open the FTP ports in the Windows Firewall
config or use "passive mode" that eliminates the need for open ports on
the client.

try adding the ftp client to the exceptions list for the firewall
run firewall.cpl, click the exceptions tab, click the add programs button,
and if the program isn't in the auto-generated list, browse to it.

Besides the other suggestions, you can also reconfigure IE to
use passive mode.
