Hello...
As of today (Jan 2/08) I am receiving the following error message from media
centre and am not able to close the message out (without it coming back even
when media centre is not loaded).

Message text:

Media centre receiver service has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

When I check "for more information", the following is provided:

Error signature:
szAppName: ehrecvr.exe
szAppVer: 5.1.2715.3011
szModName: mcm2ve.ax
szModVer: 7.3.0.16928
Offset: 0000b9a2

I appreciate any thoughts anyone might have as to the cause of this error
message and what I might do to correct it.
Thank you

Dwayne

Do you have the MainConcept MPEG-2 Video Encoder installed on your computer?
If so, that's what is causing the crash (based on the component mcm2ve.ax).

Have you tried removing it from your computer?

To my knowledge I do not have MainConcept MPEG-2 Video Encoder installed. I
did however recently install Muvee Auto Producer 6.1. Could that program be
the cause of this problem.

While showing my ignorance - how would I know if I had "MainConcept MPEG-2
Video Encoder installed"?
Thank you

The conflicting filter is mcm2ve.ax, so something installed that.

Based on a google search, it looks like there is a possibility that Muvee
Auto Producer added that filter.

You were right! I found reference to this error on the Muvee site along with
a solution on same page. So far it appears to have worked.

Thanks again for your help.

Hello, I recently began getting a similar error message: "Media Center
Receiver Service has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience." and the following details:
szAppName: ehrecvr.exe
szAppVer: 5.1.2715.2773
szModName: wmvdmoe.dll
szModVer: 7.0.0.1917
offet: 00001d4f

I am running MS Windows XP, Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack
2. I am not using any tv tuners.

Any ideas how I can get rid of this error message? Whenever I clear it, it
comes back in about 5 seconds.

Thanks,
Mark
.

I receive the same message Mark. I started getting it after I downloaded and
installed Media Center Rollup 2 Update. Windows Media Player 11 would not
work without it. But now I have this other problem. I hope this will help
someone to let us know what the fix is.

vp6dec.ax is one of the on2 codecs. Try uninstalling it from your computer
and see if that helps.

If you *must* have it, try installing an updated version and see if that
helps.

Gary,

I am getting the same thing and tried looking for the file you
recommended removing and I do not have it. I just ran an update to Media
Player and that is when it occured. Any thoughts as this is very frustrating
being that Microsfot recommended the update and now this.

I'm running Vista home Premium. IN my case, I get a meesage that the
Windows Media Center Receiver service has stopped. and the additional
detail says the error is in the module mcm2ve.ax, but that file does
not exist on my machine.

I'm thinking that maybe it was once there, and WMC used it, then
something recently deleted it -- perhaps uninstalling some other
program that was using it.

So, does anyone know where I can get a copy of the module to see if
installing it will fix the problem?

Many thanks.

In a Google search for "mcm2ve.ax", I found a reference indicating
that it was installed by TiVo desktop. The file was not in the TiVo
Destop folder in my Program Files, but there is a fairly new version
of TiVo Destop avaiable at the TiVo web site, so I downloaded and
installed that. Still no mcm2ve.ax in the TiVo files, but . . . gosh
darn . . . the problem with Windows Media Center Receiver has stopped!

Theory: Under Vista, TiVo desktop installs some other module that
performs the function previously performed by mcm2ve.ax (decoding MPG2
files, I gather), and the update installation sets a pointer that
allows other applications to use the newer module. Can anyone confirm
or deny this?

... Movie Edit Pro 14 Plus in its RegModule directory.

I'm in the process of trying to run w/o several eh-- modules from Media Center, but haven't demonstrated a real solution yet. I posted this just to indicate that there may be more than one possible source for this file. The application as the title implies helps to build movies. It takes sources from stills and videos in various formats, and creates videos or audios in various formats.

I had the same problem which occurred after using windows update to update
(optional) software.
A search via google came up with this site
http://blogs.msdn.com/peterrosser/archive/2005/10/21/483723.aspx
I downloded the mce repair program (had to be extracted from winzip) and ran
it. It worked fine and the problem has gone now.
If you decide to download and run this file (I used ver 02) you have to open
winzip and extract it onto your desktop first; then double click on the icon
and let it run - it takes a few minutes. However, it works. I checked out
the blog first and many others had commented on its success also. Hope this
helps.

I just started receiving the error message as well. I have a media center PC
running Windows XP, service pack 2. The error started after I added Roxio
Easy CD creator 5. I removed the program, but the message persists every 15
seconds.

How do I get rid of it? I do not have a tuner in my PC and hardly ever use
the media center stuff. Here are the details of the error message:

szAppName : ehrecvr.exe
szAppVer : 5.1.2715.3011
szModName : wmvdmoe.dll
szModVer : 7.0.0.1917
offset : 00001d4f

C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER54e2.dir00\appcompat.txt

Thanks for the help.

Dew, not sure if you remember how you fixed you issue with Muvee or not. I
updated Muvee today and now I receive a Media Center Receiver Service has
encountered a problem notice. I went to muvee and did an update for my
graphic driver, however, may not have found the same linked that helped you
fix your problem. Can you assist with this?
