PROBLEM
Can not get Media Center TV Setup (win7) to see STB signal.
The STB itself is a Scientific America with 1xCoaxial in, and 1xCoaxial
out. *NO* RCA/COMPOSITE/HDMI. It is connected to the computer from the
Coaxial out to the antenna in on my Hauppauge PVR-150
It asks me if I have a set-top box. I opt YES.
I am continued to "select a working TV Signal" step. The options I am
presented with are these
* S-video 1
* S-video 2
* Composite Video 1
* Composite Video 2
* None of the above have a TV signal.
Since I am connected to the STB with a Coax cable I am not expecting to
get a signal from any of the 4 input options listed... and as expected -
I don't.
Should there be an Analog/RF/Coaxial option there and for some reason
it is not showing?
If.... instead of selecting CABLE in an earlier step, and instead opt
for Antenna I can tune to channel 3 and watch my cable channels using
the STB and changing the channels with the STB remote... it works, but
its not what I want for various reasons (mainly because MC doesnt
recognize the channel changes thus when I change the channel on the STB
i have to wait 5 seconds that the buffer has stored) that are pointless
beside the fact that I just like stuff to work :P
In trying the antenna route I was able to atleast prove that the TV
card works and does see the signal - and that there is something missing
when I try to set it up as a cable connection with a STB..
Another point worth mentioning - I have been able to configure the STB
without a problem as far as using the IR to change the channels... Cause
i see the STB channels changing on the STB LED display, just no image
being projected on the tv screen.
too much information? too little information? please help me! I don't
want to buy a VCR just so I can use the demodulator and get RCA outs to
plug into the RCA in on my PVR-150.
PLEASE HELP!

I can even get MC to play TV channels from the STB if I set up the
connection using the Antenna settings and have the channel set on CH3
while using the STB to change the actual channels... But if I use the
Antenna settings I can't take advantage of the IR Blaster's STB control
option because MC won't let me use the IR Blaster on the STB if I am
using the Antenna. Why would it? what Antenna uses an STB?
So i go back and do the Cable with STB setup, but in this process it
doesn't allow me to pick the broadcasting channel... It only gives me 4
connection options, and not the Analog connection I am actually using.
* S-video 1
* S-video 2
* Composite Video 1
* Composite Video 2

Let me try and explain this using the steps I take.
In setup i goto *setup tv signal*.
I pick the country (Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela) and click next.
I pick the postal code (1010) and click next.
I agree to *Program Guide Terms of Service* and click next.
It attempts to download TV setup data... of course nothing is
downloaded cause I live in noman's land. I hit next.
Now I am on the step that asks *"What type of TV Signal do you
Receive?"* The options are Cable, Satellite, and Antenna.
If I pick Antenna it takes me to *"TV Signal Configuration / The
following TV signals will be configured for Windows Media Center:
Analog Antenna (1 Tuner). Select next to confirm."* I select next.
TV Signal Setup Finished. I select Finished (no other option.)
From there I can go to LIVE TV and set the tuner to Channel 3 where it
will display whatever channel I tune my STB to.*
BUT.... I don't want to use Antenna. I want to use cable through my
STB with the IR Blaster option.*
These are the steps I go through which always ends in a total failure.
I select CABLE and click on NEXT.
It brings me to an option Labeled *"Set-Top Box"* and says "some tv
signals require a set-top box, which is supplied by your TV service
provider. Do you have a set-top box?"
I do have a set-top box, so I select Yes and click next.
The setup wizard then tells me to Prepare for Set-Top Box Setup. I can
verify that all requirements are met and once again --click-- next.
I am not at the step titled *select a working tv signal*. it says
"select a TV signal, if you do not see video, check your hardware setup"
and then offers me the following 5 options.
1) S-Video 1
2) S-Video 2
3) Composite Video 1
4) Composite Video 2
5) None of the above have a TV Signal.
Non of the 4 inputs show video.. this is no surprise as I am connected
to the STB with a coaxial cable. So, I select option number 5 "none of
the above have a TV signal"
wizard pretty much ends by telling me to check my hardware.... But I
know my hardware works, because when I go through the Antenna settings I
get picture just fine, but no use of the STB though MC IR Blaster...
There is a 6th option missing from my list and thats Analog/RF/Coax
Connection.
I would like to believe that this is a problem that can be solved, but
I am starting to lean towards doubtful.

Have you tried telling it you have s-video anyway, just to get through the
setup, possibly even plug something into the s-video (a video
camera/vcr/etc.) just so MCE senses and input during setup.
I've never purposely told it the wrong input, so I don't know if it then
ignores the input on the other connections once you run through the setup or
if you can set it up for s-video and then receive a signal through the coax
anyway.

And yeah, its one of the first things I tried - because I was curious
to see if the IR Blaster would work with my STB, so even though I never
got a picture I told the program I did and it brought me through the
next steps - everything worked fine (IR Blaster controlled STB no
problem) aside from the fact that I never got an image on the TV. I
wasnt able to fix that important fact, though.
Its funny, cause I have done a lot of searching and it seems like not a
single person other than myself has had this particular problem :P
And Curious, yeah - I totally tried nearby settings, I even tried my
Canadian address to see if it would change anything. It changed
nothing.
One solution is to get a Demodulator that converts my Coax into RCA...
Or find out if the local cable company will allow me to buy my own STB
that has an RCA out, as they do not offer one.
If anyone has any hack that might help me out, PLEASE! I dont want to
start investing money in something that should work out of the box.

However, if I can find my area on zaptoit i would KILL to have a
downloadable guide for my area which is probably way too much to ask
for.
PS Don't clip the threads, it best to leave everything intact for future
reference. Many people use dedicated newsreaders for newsgroups/forums
rather than web sites or engines (like techarena or google) that steal
(oops, I mean find) the content. So if someone doesn't have their reader set
store every message, they only see the most recent, so no message history.

I honestly don't know if the guide is relevant or not, so if it is -
can you tell me why? Otherwise, as much as I would love to have a
guide, my primary concern is just to get a picture.
I know I can get a picture if in WinTV and the channel is on 3, I
haven't yet tried using WinTV with the IR Blaster.
