I'm trying to help a friend who has a PC running XP MCE. I'm trying to
install the Recovery Console boot-up option. The only way I've ever done it
(many times) is to have the Windows CD or the contents on a local drive and
install it from there using the /cmdcons switch.

However, this PC is one of those lame ones where the seller only put a
recovery partition on the hard drive and there's no CD.

I have an XP Pro CD of mine but somehow I don't think I can use it to
install the RC on an MCE system, I would think I'd need an MCE disk.

I already tried to copy the i386 folder from the recovery partition (took
some finagling as they have it protected so you can't touch the files) but
got an error when I ran c:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons.

Anyone got any ideas?

MCE is a subset of XP Pro with some features removed and added, I suspect
installing the console with your Pro media will work just fine, but don't
quote me on that.
