After reading some posts - do you have to have MEDIA CENTER installed in
order to use this? If that is the case, I dont - I just want to connect to my
PC to run music on my XBOX and thought from the XBOX screen that this is what
I would have to do. I do NOT have Media Center on the PC so that must be the
problem.

For Music, Windows Media Connect can be used. It is only for video that
Media Center is required.

XBOX 360 says "You must have Media Connect running on you computer. If you do
not, go to www.xbox.com/pcsetup

Which is what I did - however, this seemed to install the Media Extender or
at least try. Setup doesnt run...

Do I have to install from somewhere else?
Why wont setup run? It just extracts and exits?

What should I do next

I found Media Connect 2.0 and installed it.... then tried to run the
XBOXXPSP-ENU program again -and it did the same thing.

I am having the same issue. The file extraction will happen then the
setup fails. In my case the dvcsetup log file will show that it hangs
at "verifying MCE is NOT installed on a dynamic disk". Also, the
dvcsetup.exe process will sit in task manager at 50% utilization until
you kill it. This appears to be a problem with the code/install files
but no one at MS seems to notice it to this point. I have already left
a message in their newsgroups and after 3 weeks I have received NO
response.

I was experiencing the same problem: When running XboxMCE05Lite-enu.exe,
the setup would not start, and DvcSetup.exe was consuming 50% of my
dual-core CPU (so probably 100% of a single core). This took me forever
to find, but it did the trick... I actually found it in a MSFT forum
first, but then was able to (finally) find the MS KnowledgeBase
article, 916180. Hope that helps some others...
