I recently hooked up my Media Center PC to Dish and got it all working,
except the sound. I wanted to see if anyone here could help me with the
sound problem. I will run through my setup here.

PC
Hauppauge 150MCE Tuner Card
Nvidia 5200FX Graphics Card
Microsoft MCE Remote

Here are my Cable Connections:

Svideo Cable from Graphics Card to TV
Svideo Cable from Tuner Card to Dish Receiver
RCA cable from Tuner Card to Dish Receiver
Mini Phono/RCA from Sound Card (Line Out) to TV (I bought this at Wally
World, could it be the wrong cable, it is a 1/8" mini phono)

I think that is everything. Everything works, except for the sound. I
can watch tv, record tv, but here nothing. As a test, I removed the
mini phono plug from the computer, and plugged in a set of speakers,
and it plays sound though them so I know the sound card is ok.

I have a Samsung HCL4715W Widescreen TV, that has all kinds of hookups
on the back. That may be were my problem is, wrong spot? However, I
tried every rca input on that back of the tv, and none of them gave me
sound. Like many tvs, I have to hit the TV/Video button and select the
input I want to watch. So I have it on SVideo selection because that is
how its connected. I get the video, just do not get the sound. I have a
pic of the rear of my tv here so you can see the options I have. I am
at a loss.

Am I missing any cables?

Thanks a ton for any help, I really want to get this right.

Check to see that your Dish Receiver is outputting audio over the RCA cable.

If you could hook a pair of speakers up to the dish receiver rca audio
outputs, it will tell you right away if audio is being outputed via that set
of outputs.

I will see if I can try that. I would think it works ok, because I had
the RCA on the dish connected to my TV for about 1 year, and it worked
great. My dish receiver only has one set of audio outs, so it is the
same ones I have been using for dish to tv connection.

Is it possible to be the mini phono to rca cable i have? does that
come in different flavors? I was wondering if maybe it wasnt the right
one?

Ok, dont call me dumb :). I just remembered I dont think I installed a
decoder? Would that cause audio not to work? I am new to this, first
timer. I dont know if that would cause this problem or not.

Tbone,

I had similar problem before. The issue seems to be the RCA cables. Try
connecting your tuner with something like DVI / HDMI instead of
S-video/RCA. DVI/HDMI cables, although more expensive, have better
signal and better video.

That'd only affect his video stream. It's the audio stream that the OP is
having difficulty with.

Are you using the line out from your audio card to the rca inputs on your
tv?

yeah, I have it going from Line Out on the '"On Board" sound card,
going to the RCA input of the TV. Strange

If you run a PC desktop and test sounds does the sound work on the TV?
Do you have any PC speakers that you can use to check the lineout
connection and/or the speaker connection with either video or when running a
PC app with sounds?
Also if your TV has multiple audio in connections are you sure you are
connected to the ones that correspond to the video coming from the PC?

I have confirmed that plugging in desktop speakers to the line out on
the computer, it plays windows sounds, and it also plays the tv sounds
through them. So, the problem is between the sound card and the TV. I
have tried all RCA inputs on the tv while connected to the PC, i cant
get sound on any of them. I cant figure this. Any ideas?

Well it works now. I tried the other inputs last night and it didnt
work. I SWEAR. i bought a new phono to RCA cable today and it didnt
work either. I just tried it in the another AV input, and it worked.
So i tried the old cable i had again, and it worked too. I dont know.
Well thanks for comments, glad to have some sound.

Is there no way to watch one and record one at the same time with
digital satellite? I have heard no because of the digital signal?

You'd need two set top boxes to do this (along with a dual tuner setup).
