If you're asking about power management (away mode? hmmm?) the various
levels of sleep, standby, suspend, and hibernate modes are explained well in
the Fred Langa article @

In away mode, the PC is not in any of the traditional sleep modes but
more like a home theater component with instal on capabiliities. the
display is turned off and there is some power reduction but the
computer can be turned back on to full power with the press of a
button.

That's actually true for any other sleep mode, too ;)

The key difference between Away and the closest "traditional" sleep mode
(S1, "Power On Suspend") is that in S1 the CPU is _stopped_, whereas in
Away mode it continues to run at a clock frequency reduced enough to allow
turning off the CPU fan. In S1, the CPU can't do anything. In Away mode the
CPU still can fulfill tasks which do not require much processing power
(such as recording TV).

Is Away mode settable anywhere? Installed rollup-2, but on shutdown, still
only see standby and hibernate options. Where is away mode?

I guess I should have said INSTANT ON with a press of a button. plus
continued processing of the scheduled TV recordings.

Away mode needs to be exposed as an ACPI function of the motherboard BIOS.
I'm not aware of any commercially available motherboard which features
this. I _think_ the motherboard makers currently only offer such boards to
PC makers, but do not sell them retail (yet?).

On my computer, it is in the Control Panel under the Multimedia Settings.
Expand the Multimedia heading and it is under Sharing Media

Hope that helps you!
