Here's a blurb from the Sonic site that says that this
coming Monday (the
13th), an update to MyDVD will be updated to support
burning DVR-MS files.
Here's hoping...
"Sonic MyDVD for Windows XP Media Center Edition can be
purchased at Sonic's
e-store (estore.sonic.com). Registered Sonic users who
have a retail version
of MyDVD 4 will be able to update their software to
version 4.0.4, which
includes support for Windows XP Media Center Edition,
free of charge at
Sonic's support site (http://support.sonic.com/)
beginning Monday, January
13th. Owners of earlier versions of MyDVD can upgrade to
version 4 at Sonic'
s e-store. "

I believe the Sonic MyDVD is version 3.5 on the HP 873n.
So, I guess we don't qualify for the free upgrade? Does
anyone have any info on this? Would we get a price break
or have to pay the $79.99?
Thanks,
Carolyn

I just ordered the MyDVD for MCE. It isn't shipping now
and there is no downloadable version. I asked about an
upgrade price and was told that our OEM version is not
eligable. I was also told that this version will work with
the DVR-MS format.
I will post my experience with this product when I get it.

There are only two types of audio that will play in all set-top players
according to the DVD-V specification (NTSC) and those audio types are PCM
(uncompress audio) and Dolby Digital AC-3 (compressed audio).
Due to license fees to Dolby, AC-3 is not an option for encoding the audio
for products in this price range.
So if you want a disc that plays in all players and you don't want to pay
the Dolby royalties for encoders, the only option is PCM audio.
Sonic has other DVD products that will encode AC-3 priced from $299 to
$200,000.
Thanks,
