I recently installed the new TV Pack for Windows Media Center (previously
codenamed Fiji). Media Center now records TV shows as .wtv files instead of
the old .dvr-ms files. Now, Windows Media Player 11 does not show them in
its Recorded TV section but instead in the Video section. I used to use the
Sync Playlist "TV Shows Recorded in the Last Week," but it is now empty
since WMP doesn't see the .wtv files as Recorded TV. Also, even if I try to
manually create a playlist to sync the TV shows from the Video section, WMP
fails to convert the files. I love some of the features of the new TV Pack,
but I miss being able to sync my last weeks worth of TV to the Gigabeat.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Yogi

Fiji/TV Pack for Windows is not available from Microsoft as an
update. You might want to check with the source of the update on
your issue.

If you don't have any information pertaining to my question, please refrain
from replying. Take a look at this post
(http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/permalink/281689/281666/ShowThread.aspx#281666)
from The Green Button. Jeff, a Microsoft employee posting at that forum
(which is now owned by Microsoft), could have removed the link to the
"illegal" copy of the TV pack, but he didn't. Instead he's even answered
some questions pertaining to it. So, if a MS employee can stay off the soap
box, you probably should, too.

Also, you seem to be under the assumption that the only way someone would
have the TV Pack would be through duplicitous means. This is incorrect. Take
a look at
http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/permalink/280553/280553/ShowThread.aspx#280553
and you will see that S1Digital is already shipping systems with the TV
Pack.

The Recorded TV format was changed in the TV Pack, and is now different from
DVR-MS. There is no announced update for Windows Media Player, or any other
applications that I know of to accomodate the new WTV format. And of
course, an MCE PC without the TV pack won't be able to play them either.

Is there any way to update this OS, to something that is still supported?
I tried to add more songs to it & it went crazy. Now all 150+ song were lost
in the process..

So, you're saying that my 2 year old media player is useless under WMP 11?
Isn't there a FTC requirement for a given number of years of support for
consumer electronics or software?

Hmm, I remember that post. We in the WM community are still waiting for the
"fruits of the labours of that platform [to] be visible in future Windows
Mobile-based products."

What is needed to make the Portable Media Centers compatible with .wtv files
is not an update to the PMC (which I agree won't happen), but an update to
Windows Media Player. Even with .dvr-ms files, the PMC doesn't play them
directly, it plays a .wmv version of the show that has been transcoded by
WMP. This is also how it is handled by Zune. The new Zune 3.0 software can
handle .wtv files while WMP can't. However, Zune can't transcode any TV
files, .dvr-ms or .wtv, that contain 5.1 channel audio. The MPEG-2 decoder
in the Zune software can't do it.

That would be Zune.
