I use Windows 7 Media Centre, and have just added an album of WAV files (in
this case Jack Johnson’s album: In between Dreams) to my music directory.
The directory structure I use is:
C:\users\gary\music\music archive\Jack Johnson\In Between Dreams\Jack
Johnson - Banana Pancakes.wav
The problem is when I view this album within media centre, only about half
the tracks are recognised and stored under 'Jack Johnson' in the artists
list, and 'In between Dreams' in the albums list, the rest are listed as
'unknown'.
Why does WMC recognise some and not others? and is there a way around this?
Many thanks
Gary

Is Media Player set to automatically find media information? (Under the
Library tab in Options)
Normally, when you rip a new CD or download a file to a watch location MP
goes out to the net an attempts to find the album info. I'm not sure how it
finds the info when you have manually created the structure or why, if that
is what is happening, it would only find and mark some of the songs under a
particular folder. Unless, while it is doing a search and the song title do
not exactly match the online database, it doesn't know how to tag them.
There is a setting in the Library options about "using rip settings", I'm
not sure if that perhaps forces the info based on the folder structure
(never played with it).
If you want to check to see what it is finding, go into the Library in MP,
right-click on one of the unknowns, and choose "Find Album Info" and see
what comes up.
If it's any help, you can select multiple tracks in the Library and edit the
tag, it will then be applied to all tracks. You also can drag a track onto
an album and it will acquire that album info.
