Hi,

Comcast just sent us Digital Receivers for our TV's which make the recording
with VCR's obsolete, guess it was already obsolete. I've ordered a new
computer with a Hauppauge 2250 TV tuner card. I see that it has a coaxial
cable, is there a way to go to the TV by wireless? I've searched but can't
really find any link that gives step by step, on the connections from TV to
PC and what is needed in between. I hope this is not the wrong venue for
this question. I am new to this technology.

Thanks!

The coax connection on the tuner card is an input, so it has nothing to do
with going to the TV. It is to connect the source (cable, antenna, video
camera, or even an old VCR) to the computer.

To connect the computer to the TV, you need the output of the PC which would
most likely be VGA or DVI out from the video card (or possible HDMI if the
PC is so equipped).

You'd need a Media Center Extender. If you have an Xbox 360, it has a built in
extender function. You can get refurb extender for as little as $99
http://www.ecost.com/detail.aspx?edp=53966466&source=EWBBASE&cm_mmc=CSE-_-google-_-ewbbase-_-Electronics&CAWELAID=457532991

You'd need a wireless router/access point. You'd connect the extender/Xbox 360
to your TV.

The coax output from the digital tuner that Comcastgive you will provide SD
analog output from your local broadcasters that you can receive with a
standard TV and/or with the analog tuner on a 2250 card so that you can
watch and/or record it. if you use a splitter. How to display live or
recorded programs available on your PC on a TV is a totally separate issue
and various solutions are available.

Thanks for all the input!

I misspoke when saying "connections to the computer", I did mean connections
to the source.

The coaxial input on the tuner connects to a source, OK, how? I'm assuming I
must run a cable around the house to make this happen. Some say use an
extender, and go wireless. The input of the card, if not running a cable,
must some how go to a wireless hub. The hub does not have a place to screw
in the cable. Is there a coaxial to wire that plugs into the hub. I would
love to see a diagram of connections from PC to source at the TV end, both
wireless and hard wired.

Again Thanks!
Abe

Typically the MC PC is located close to the TV source (direct cable, antenna
connection, cable/sat box) and you connect it via coax, s-video, or
composite.

The Extender is used to watch or listen to content from the PC at another
location, for example a TV in the bedroom even though the PC is located in
the family room with the main TV. It "extends" the location/use of the MC
computer, not the TV source itself. The Extender is connected to the MC
computer via typical networking (either hardwired or a wireless), the faster
the better especially for HD content.

Here's a link with the basic source setups:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-media-center/learn-more/record-tv/tutorials/broadcast-tv-setup-signal.aspx#Box

But if you poke around the other pages there, you will find a lot of useful
basic info.

A cable company connection from a wall outlet connects to the digital
receiver that Comcast sent you. It also has a Coax output which you connect
to the analog coax input on your Hauppauge tuner cord since you are using
the Comcast receiver as the source for the analog tuner on your card.
