Did anyone ever get to the bottom of the problem whereby Live sync
machine Id's spontaneously change?

I've just had this happen on my Windows 7 machine. My machine was named
Win7Home, and now LiveSync sees it as Win7Home-1. I've not changed
anything that I'm aware of or done anything other than reboot the machine.

This is the first time this has happened for me, but I've just moved
from XP to Win 7.

P.S. Where are we supposed to go for LS Support once this newsgroup is
shutdown?

There is a Help and Support forum for Live Sync here:
http://windowslivehelp.com/

When a machine shows up with the -1 appended, that means that it sees it as a
new machine. It can happen on an OS upgrade and it can happen on a reinstall. It
also happened with a Live Sync upgrade several months ago.
Delete the old machine via the management site at sync.live.com and rename the
new machine. Yes, you may need to deal with setting up the folders again.
