For two days now, my laptop will not connect to LiveSync, but my PC in the
other room does. SystemRestore did not solve the problem. I have
uninstalled and reinstalled LiveSync. Wireless connection fine. Windows
7homegroup working okay.

Any ideas?

What happens when it tried to connect?
On the off chance that you are not using IE to access the web on that machine,
check the IE options to make sure that it isn't set to work offline. Also check
the Connections/LAN in IE/Tools/Internet Options to make sure that you do not
have the automatically detect or use proxy options set.

Hi Steve
Thanks for the response.
First, your answer does reassure me that Live Sync does not have a problem
and it is my machine.

>What happens when it tried to connect?
LS goes through the normal routine and the icon in the task bar notification
area, bottom right indicates “Connecting” “Not signed in” “Signing in”. When
I click (or even mouse over) the icon instantly disappears.

I am using IE
File > Work Offline is not selected

>Also check the Connections/LAN in IE/Tools/Internet Options to make sure that you do not have the automatically detect or use proxy options set.

It appears to make no difference if Automatically detect settings is
selected or not, it is not selected, now.

I can visit the web page and see all my folders and devices, but the laptop
icon has no green box.
On my PC, I can see (in activity) it is in the middle of receiving a file
(“waiting for the source”).
Live Sync has been working away perfectly for months, this is a sudden event.

I am not aware of any back end issues and the fact that it works fine on one PC,
but fails to connect on another does point to a local problem on that PC.
When uninstalling, did you reboot before trying to install again? What security
software on that PC? Did anything change just before the problem began?

Well this is strange. I have restored the system to 14 days ago using a bare
metal restore program.

I have turned off Windows Security Essentials.

I uninstalled LS again, rebooted, installed LS again but still it disappears.

I plugged in a new Kensington Orbit Optical Trackball a few days ago, but
have since restored well before that was plugged in. I have taken it out and
now I am using the laptop mouse pad.

I uninstalled LS again and rebooted and then installed an older version of
LS.
It invited me to install a newer version, I agreed but this is not happening
a dialogue box has come up “There was a problem sending the command to the
program”

At least the icon is staying put in the task bar and I can select such
things as “options”.

Am I going to have to format C?

Steve

Even stranger, I turned off the laptop to cool down, when I restarted it
went into install mode asked for my password and behaved as though nothing
had ever been wrong.

All seems well now. Many thanks for your help. Sorry to have troubled you
– but I still don’t know what caused the problem.

Glad that is seems to have been resolved. Just one note, though. You do mean
Microsoft Security Essentials, yes?

And not this, I hope?
