I have two computers I'm trying to sync using Live Sync. Both are on the same
network; one is an PC running XP SP-3, the other is a Mac running OS X. Both
appear to be connected via Live Sync, and files can transfer from the Mac to
the PC. However, only the placeholder transfers from PC to the Mac.

On the Mac, messages under activity are: current transfer column "Pending",
Direction "Receiving" Status "Sending request" or "Connecting" and "All
matches currently busy"

On the PC, messages under activity are: File "Pending" , direction
"Sending", and Status ""Waiting for request"

I suspect the problem is that I need to be using a proxy. On the PC, the
Live Sync setting under Proxy type is "Use browser settings (https)" but I do
not have the equivalent choice on the Mac. If I choose HTTP it requires a
URL. There are no visible proxy settings on IE on the PC.

Any ideas?

Ask guru network guru. If you can't do that then try this.
Go in to IE -> under connection and look at the automatic proxy
configuration file. the file probably lives on the proxy server itself so you
can take it's computer name (ie. proxy.acme.com) and add this to the mac.
However if it points to a different location like a folder and a file you may
need to open the .pac file in notepad in order to gleam the proxy information
from it.

You'll have to know if it's HTTP or SOCKS proxy and what port. I think the
HTTP proxy is the most common and the most common ports are usually 8080 or
80. This information should be somewhere in the .pac file.

Thanks Johnish,

It is possible that my network guru will be horrified that I actually can
use Life Sync at all on my desktop PC. So I'm trying to solve the Mac issue
without too much fuss.

On the PC that works, in IE 7 > Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN
Settings, I don't see any reference to any proxy server or automatic
configuration script -- nothing is checked.

I'm looking for a .pac file but there doesn't appear to be one on my hard
drive (could it be on a network server?)

I find the following settings in the System Information IE7 of the PC
LAN Settings
AutoConfigProxy wininet.dll
AutoProxyDetectMode Disabled
AutoConfigURL
Proxy Disabled
ProxyServer
ProxyOverride *.local

So maybe this isn't it?

Hi, cyanocorax

You might be running into a known issue where Windows XP SP2 with optional
Windows Update 931125(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931125) or XPSP3 can't
sync with Mac with encryption.
As a workaround, please turn off "Encrypt transfers" option on Settings ->
General tab on both clients.

Thanks!

This known issue has been around for quite sometime. Is there a plan to
resolve it?
