I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with XP SP2, with DSL connection. I have
AVG antivirus free version, Comodo firewall, Spyware Blaster and Hive
Cleanup. All of these have run well together and I have had no
problems.

Lately, I've noticed that Live Messenger does not sign in
automatically. Is there something I should do or should I wait for
Microsoft to correct the problem?

Thanks,

Robert

Greetings Robert,

There's no known problem here for auto sign-in. When it doesn't sign you in automatically,
double-click on the Messenger icon in the notification area and at least see if it tried
(it'll be counting down to the next attempt if it did). It's possible that the firewall is
stopping internet traffic before it's fully started and Messenger is trying to connect prior
to that happening.

I logged on again tonight and once again Live Messenger failed to
automatically logon (this is not normal and started a few days ago) so
I clicked the icon and after cycling it came up with the following
message:

We were unable to sign you in to Windows Live Messenger possibly
because of a problems with the service or with your Internet
connection. Please make sure you are connected to the Internet. To let
us try and troubleshoot the problem, click the troubleshoot button.

Error Code 81000306

Troubleshoot Close Help

I clicked the Troubleshoot button and it gave me the following:

X IP
X Default Gateway
X IE Offline Setting
X Hosts File
X DNS
X Proxy Server
X Key Ports
Wirless

Then as Wireless was still processing it came up with the message that
Windows Live Messeger needs to close and with it the icon(this has
happened several times now).

However once closed I was able to click the Internet Explorer icon and
click on the I'm Messenger link to activate the Live Messenger in the
notification area.

I've run scans and it's found nothing. Thoughts/Suggestions?

Thanks,

Robert

Windows Live Messenger continues with the same problem of not logging
automatically and has to be manually started(This is not the norm).
I've also noticed that for the last several days that my AVG also fals
to logon properly and has to be manually updated to start. Is
Microsoft in the process of upgrading which is resulting in these
errors? I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Thanks,

Robert

I have a similar issue.

Just reinstalled Win7 64bit, install the latest WLM and tick the boxes to auto launch and sign in. WLM starts but just sits in the taskbar disconnected. I have to open it, and click sign in. It does remember my name/password I just have to manually click sign in each time I reboot.

When I close WLM and start it from the start menu, it does auto sign in.

It seems to me that WLM starts before the network interface is ready.

I could easily test this if I could put a delay in starting WLM.
