I have set my Yahoo account up in Windows Live Mail using the instructions
and settings from my Yahoo account. I can receive maill in Windows Live from
Yahoo with no problem. When I try to send a message from Windows Live, I get
an error message that says:

The host 'plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com ' could not be found. Please verify that
you have entered the server name correctly.

Subject 'test'
Server: 'plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com '
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0D
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 465
Secure(SSL): Yes
Socket Error: 11004

I have double checked my settings and verified that they are correct (3
times).

What else should I try.

SMTP server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Use SSL
Port: 465
Use authentication
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the
"@yahoo.com", for example, “testing80”)
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (for example, test...@yahoo.com)
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

What authentication setting are you using?

I checked the box that indicates the outgoing server should use the same
settings as the incoming mail server. The incoming mail server has three
options: 1. clear text 2. secure password 3. authenticated POP (APOP). I
have currently checked "clear text." Is another setting correct?

I just tried the other two settings and with either of them selected, I'm not
able to send or receive email; which is a step backwards from where I am now.

Have you tried Port 587 for SMTP?

See:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-08.html;_ylt=Ass_US_H03SPhjBZ6x3TLkutKSd4

OE & WLM are virtually the same regarding settings.

I tried this port number too, but got the same message. Any other ideas?

On the server tab of your account>properties

Try removing the space from the end of 'plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com ' so that
it is like this 'plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com'
Put your cursor to the end of the sever name and backspace to remove it.

Thanks - you do have an eagle eye. I hadn't noticed that space after 'com'
and before the quotation. That solved it after I switched back to the
original port number. Perfect!
