I think the whole Windows Live E-Mail Program stinks!!!
They will not even reply but only send you to a forum.
There whole window is full of small icons and small words.

Some time ago I saw a fix for this that requires deleting the local
copy of the calendar, but I don't remember the details.
(I don't use the calendar.)

I tried Thunderbird, but couldn't find a way to import my messages and
contacts from Windows Mail. How did you move your stuff into Thunderbird?

To import WLM messages into Thunderbird, you need the ImportExport Tool
add-on...
https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/mboximport-en.html

then import all eml files in a folder.
The WLM message location is normally
C:\Users\<yourlogin>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail
(note: \Appdata is normally hidden)

If Vista or Windows 7, Close WLM, delete the contents of the Windows Live Mail Calendar store folder for the default account and
Live ID's. It will be rebuilt on next open. If Live ID, it will be rebuilt the next sign-on to Windows Live with that respective
Live ID.

The default path for each are as follows(assumes you are using the current version of WLM)
Vista/Windows 7
C:\Users\<your windows login name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Calendars

XP
C:\Documents and Settings\<your windows login name> Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\Calendars

Note: Ensure Windows Explorer is configured to show protected, hidden and system files. If not, you may miss deleting the DBStore
folder for the Default account

The first thing to try is a Repair Install of WLMail through Programs and Features, in case it is just corruption of a .dll file or a registry item.

Failing that, as Gary and Winston suggested, you should delete (or rename) the relevant calendar Store/Cache* and allow it to be recreated when you restart WLMail.

If you use Windows Live Calendar in WLMail by signing into Windows Live in WLMail, your WLCalendar data will be synchronised with WLMail's Calendar. If not, your old Default Calendar data will be lost.

*The Calendar Store/Caches are located within a folder named 'Calendars' within the WLMail Message Store**.
The Default Calendar Store ('DBStore' protected system folder***) is directly under this 'Calendars' folder.
There are also folders named according to each WL ID, which contains that WL ID's Calendar Cache ('DBStore' protected system folder).

**WLMail's Message Store is a directory named 'Windows Live Mail'. The path to the Message Store, in its default location involves a hidden folder, so ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked under Folder Options in Windows Explorer. To find the location of your message store, in WLMail go to Tools->Options...->Advanced [tab]->Maintenance->Store Folder.

The default Message Store locations are:

Vista & 7:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail
(C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail)

XP:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail
(C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail)

***The Default Calendar Store folder, named 'DBStore', is a protected system folder, so ensure that "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" is unchecked under Folder Options in Windows Explorer.

I am using VistaHP64. I have the same exact complaint. WLM locks up
trying to open a reply email or a new email. If you wait about 3
mintures either will eventually open, wait some more and you will then
be able to type on it. This has something to do with the spelling tab
because when you click options and click the spelling tab it locks up
for about 5 minutes as well. I have done a clean reinstall and exactly
the same problems happen again. Something must have changed with the way
Vista64 and this program interact on or about March 25th 2010. I have
installed Thunderbird also but it's slower, not as integrated, and well
I dont like it as much. I cant even get Windows Mail (comes with
Vista64) to work at all. I enjoyed WLM up until March 25th and after
that its been pure aggravation. It does not appear there is a solution
to this problem fro MS or anyone else. I have tried everything I have
seen online from renaming the stupid calendar to the clean reinstall and
nothing absolutely nothing has helped.
