This is my first computer and I am very "green" For the last three weeks all
mail has been sent and received. Now with some messages I get the error code:
The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Live Mail", and read
the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help
determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service
provider.

The rejected e-mail address was 'danmo...@sky.com'.

Subject 'Re: Sunday evening.'
Server Error: 550
Server Response: 550 5.1.1 Relaying denied to domain sky.com
Server: 'mail1.eircom.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC79
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): No
I have had a similar message trying to send to a Hotmail account. All other
mail seems to send perfectly. Please help a very lost newbie

Make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
Enable the "My server requires authentication" option.

If you saw that message for a Hotmail account, you should be using port 587 with SSL for Hotmail and Authentication for the
Outgoing Server.

No that message appers when I try to send mail through my eircom.net account.
Does that make a difference?

I changed the setting as suggested but it has made no difference. CarolR

No..the presence of a Hotmail account does not make a difference.

Since the title of this post is 'Some Mail'
- Is it all mail, or just the mail to that recipient that was rejected by the recipient's server

It has happened with that recipient and two others. If I go onto my husbands
computer they all get sent properly. Also if I go onto the eircom.net website
I can send the mail without a problem

Being sent to the same @sky.com location ?

Working for some and not others indicates a local issue with interference by AV software or external your isp/recipient isp.

No they were going to different addresses, sky.com and hotmail.com. I have
tried restoring the computer right back to the day I purchased it but the
result is the same. Although I installed AVG anti virus I have removed it.
