Hello, shorlty after installing windows 7 I moved my windows live mail
storage to my Drive D data drive. I have discovered that while there is a
CONTACTS diretcory on the D drive that windows live mail DOES NOT store its
contacts in the contacts folder.

If I do a backup image of my C drive, reboot, load windows live mail, open
contacts and add a new contact, then restore my C drive I find the new
contact is no longer there. This indicates to me that while windows live mail
IS storing most of its data on the D drive it IS NOT storing the conacts
there, if it were a drive C restore would not remove any new contacts.

It looks like windows live mail is storing its contacts somewhere on the C
drive.
Ths is idiotic since I changed its data storage to drive D some time ago.

Anyone know why when you change windows live mails storage diretcory to
another drive it still stores its contacts on the C drive ?

Where on the C drive it stores them is a mystery. I have set the folder
options to show all system files ect. I can find a couple contacts
directories on the C drive but they are empty.

Thanks

Tom

The Windows Live Mail contacts are stored in a .edb file under a few folders
under
C:\Users\(yourlogin)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts
These folders are protected operating system files, so you have to turn on
viewing of those to see them.

... and you can't move them out of your %userprofile% because they're used by more than one program - i.e. Mail and Messenger. If you try, WLMail will re-create the folder in %userprofile%.

Backup your contacts to a *.csv file.
While one can copy the contact.edb database file for archive purposes, using it to replace an existing will most likely result in
duplicate categories(groups) within your contacts or a messages about corruption.
