I decided to switch from Outlook to WLM to download my hotmail. It downloads
all the headings but when I click on a message I get this

Message could not be displayed
Windows Live Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this
message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.

I've searched Google and hundereds of people have experienced the same
problem but no solution seems to work (for most people atleast). I've
reinstalled WLM but nothing. I'm using XP SP2. If anyone knows of another
solution that has worked please share it.

Or if a free grandfathered Hotmail account in OL03/07 using the WebDAV servers without the Outlook Connector(until WebDAV is
discontinued, no sooner than Jan 2009). :)

The only thing I can think of, is when I was downloading mail, my Avast
popped up saying there was a trojan contained in the mail so I deleted the
email through avast, and I guess I am now left with this. ... So bloody
annoying.

Does your email provider offer a web-mail option?

If so, use your web browser to log onto your account via the webmail
interface. Open your mail inbox and delete the message.

Then, open Internet Explorer, click on Tools | Internet Options |
Browsing History | Delete ... and delete your Temporary Internet Files.

The subject of the original post was "WLM cant download message".

Based upon that subject line, I assumed that the message had not been
downloaded to your computer - and was sitting in your inbox on your
ISP's Mail Server. Consequently, I recommended that you open your web
browser, log onto your email account via your ISP's webmail interface,
and delete the message from your inbox. I also recommended that you
should delete the Temporary Internet Files on your computer.

Did you log onto your mail account via the webmail interface? Was the
message still there and if so, did you delete it?

If my original assumption was incorrect - and WLM did download the
message to your computer, try the following:

Confirm the location of the WLM Message Store on your computer by
opening WLM. Click on Tools | Options... | Advanced | Maintenance |
Store Folder ... . (On my computer, the message store is at
C:\Documents and Settings\[My identity name]\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\[Name of the mail account]).

Each email will be in a separate file in the format xxxxxxxx-yyyyyyyy
(where yyyyyyyy is a serial number, starting with 00000001). Use "trial
and error" to identify the corrupted message - and delete it.

If that doesn't solve your problem, save all your emails to a different
location. Delete the corrupted mail account in Windows Live Mail - then
reinstall the mail account.

I suppose that as a last resort, you could uninstall and reinstall WLM -
unless any other contributor to this newsgroup has a better suggestion.

It might be possible to solve this type of problem by forcing a
reindexation of the message store. The database record of the file
doesn't tally with the reality (for example if the file has been
deleted from the file system either by the user or by another
application). To do this, go to [Tools >] Options > Advanced >
Maintenance. Check the option to 'Compact the database on shutdown
every n runs' and change n to 2. OK your way out and close WLMail
down. Wait a minute, then open it up again. Click on a mail folder
other than the one that's selected, then close WLMail down again.
You should get asked whether you want to recover unused disk space -
click Yes, and the compaction (and reindexing) process starts. When
it's done, open up again and see if the problem persists. Then come
back here and tell us whether this helped.

THANK YOU for your reply
I did try to do what you suggested above. How ever I forgot to mention that
its only in the "QUICK VIEW MENU" that it shows up in the Unread box and the
"all" inbox and "all Email" on the right hand pane it doesnt show me which
account it was for it just says the standard Message could not be displayed

Windows Live Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this
message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.

If you could tell me where the the quick view folder is on my computer maybe
I could find/delete from there? I'm not very technical so bear with me on
this.
Thanks again for your help.

A Quick View 'folder' is not a real folder. It is a composite view that is
created on the fly. Quick View does not show the account for any emails
that originated from non-POP accounts. (I consider this a design flaw.)
If you suspect that your Quick View folders are corrupted, try this fix:

To repair the broken Quick views, delete the registry value "SearchFolderVersion" under the registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail. This will cause WLM to rebuild its
Quick view data store when it is next started.

If you are unfamiliar with editing the registry, you could simply use PaulM's script:

Windows Live Mail is not compatible with Windows 10.  Please use something else like Microsoft Outlook (Subscription is payable for this) or Mozilla Thunderbird - free email and news reader.  You can import your mails in these two apps.

Try this:

Windows Live Email not displaying message body
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/forum/all/windows-live-email-not-displaying-message-body/089f25e8-e2a0-4651-b077-86d5ef8f729b

After updating to the Windows 10, version 2004 my windows live email will not display the body of any messages.
However, messages prior to the update still will display the body of email messages.
Any one have suggestions to a fix for this problem?
can not send any email, either.

Answer:

Windows 10 Feature Update 2004 breaks Windows Live Mail (WLM), by corrupting the WLM account display if WLM contains several accounts.

For example, WLM may be unable to open new messages in the Inbox.

The following solution was posted by WLMUser2020, which involves editing or creating three registry entries (so ensure you have a reliable registry backup before proceeding):

1. Close Windows Live Mail.

2. In the Windows registry, open this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail

3. Create these three DWORD entries in that key:

RecreateFolderIndex = 1
RecreateStreamIndex = 1
RecreateUIDLIndex = 1

4. Restart Windows Live Mail.

Then the message display should be back to normal, and those 3 values in the registry should have reset themselves to 0 (and can be left like that).

Awesome answer Gianni, solved it for me. Thank you. :)

Interestingly, another PC which upgraded directly from 1909 to 20H2 did not experience the issue.
