I was used Microsoft Outlook Express before until today i saw this nice
Win Life Mail Desktop program.

I tried to import (recover) all my contacts from a *.wab and *.cvs file.

1. > Wab will import all contacs nicly in a group.. however it will not
import the Names of the people only their Mail adresses ! BUG!

2. > Cvs will import all contacts with a name.. so we have a connection
between a name and an email adress, and here comes again the funny part.. all
the format is lost. All your contacts will be messed up and you can not bring
them in Groups again ! BUG!

So we the Users can not import/export a propper adress-book with wab NOR cvs
(and WIN LIFE MAIL DESKTOP wont even provide wab /instead only *vcf)!!!

And do you think that is it ?? YES ? NO its not .. there are even more Bugs
lol..

Export a wab-file in Outlook express.. if you dont have the contacs in
Groups , meaning you have them in folders.. your format will be lost as well.

All this makes a simple Win XP/Vista user go insane !!

SO PLEASE FIX IT !!!!

Hi, Solara.

The word "desktop" was dropped from the name of Windows Live Mail way back
in May. (Yes, I know that word is still in the name of this newsgroup;
we've been hoping MS would get around to changing that.) If you just
"today" saw "Windows Live Mail Desktop", then you must have been looking in
an out-of-date location. Windows Live Mail was in beta until last week,
when it build 12.0.1606 was released as the final version: Windows Live
Mail 2008.

Get your copy here and let us know if you still have problems with it:

Hello!

I use the newest Version 12.0.1606 and I have the same problems like Solara.
I wrote this before but no one answered.
Another problem is that no special characters (like ä, ö, ß) are supported.

So I think this is still I bug. Btw, I use the german version of WLM.

Kind regards

Hi, Philipp - and Solara.

Strange. WLM had no problems importing my .wab from WinXP. I haven't tried
using a .csv file, but I've seen several users reporting success with that
method.

Many people have tried to use File | Import in the main WLM window, and that
will not work for Importing contacts. We must click Tools | Contacts, and
then File | Import. Then we have our choice of .wab, csv or a couple of
other formats.

But I don't use Contacts much, so your needs are more sophisticated than
mine and I can't help with thinks like special characters.
