My hotmail account is tied to Outlook Express on my PC. This worked great
for about a year when once a month I would be prompted to sign into my
Hotmail accnt to verify in order to continued receiving and sending emails to
Outlook Express. BUT----now it keeps making me sign in every couple of days.
This is ridiculous considering I paid the annual fees for the service and if
I have to sign in every couple of days for each email account, I may as well
do my business from the hotmail website.....What is going on?????? And,
there is no one to call and ask them to stop it.... Only this forum and I
have little hope this will solve the problem.... How can I put an end to
this annoyance????

Have you logged on to the web site(mail.live.com)
If so were you asked to enter a group of alphanumeric characters ?

Fyi...I don't recall the fee(for a Hotmail Plus account) including automatic sign-on from any email client or the web
interface...at least my Hotmail Plus account doesn't. I suspect your issue is the above or something with the account file or
registry data.

Have you removed the account and recreated it in WLM ?

Yes, I've logged in everytime they ask me to to both mail.live.com and
hotmail.com, but they just keep making me repeat the process 2 or 3 times a
week for security purposes they say. The alphanumeric request for security
is always there. Everything runs the same as usual except that my emails
seem to be caught in some sort of random loop for verification.
I have not removed either account which were both created through WLM /
hotmail. I say hotmail because that is always where I am directed.

Hi:
I think there is confusion here, caused by Microsoft, this group is for what
used to be called Windows Live Mail Desktop, now renamed Windows Live Mail.
This is different than the web based applications called Windows Live [mail
being one of them]. You might try either or both of the following groups
with better results microsoft.public.windows.live.liveid.general or
microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general.
Also see "An Outlook Express basic repair kit" at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/community/columns/oerepair.mspx

Regardless, it might help to set up your system to sign-in to Windows Live
Messenger on start-up or when you open Outlook Express. And consider
allowing Outlook Express to remember your password when signing in.

This group is for the Windows Live Mail program.
For help with Hotmail, you will have to go to
http://windowslivehelp.com
and search for your problem and ask for help.

The inability to receive in WLM or OE and the error message to sign at mail.live.com is an account issue(which we've seen in this
and other forums) but it may be only due to the alphanumeric security response requirement being fulfilled. Once entered, and
submitted for verification both WLM and OE may have restored functionality.

Fyi...I've yet to see repairing Outlook Express resolves the op's alphanumeric security issue at mail.live.com which is accessed
via IE. Nor
does it seem likely that a WLMsgr logon at startup would positively impact the outstanding security requirement for WLM(or OE) to
function.

A Hotmail account created in WLM(it has an option to do so on installation) may also fail without having logged on to mail.live.com
to establish the Inbox, necessary for synchronization. Logging on to mail.live.com will produce one of two effects(create the
inbox and/or request verification by requesting the alphanumeric characters).

If the issue is not resolved by fulfilling the security request, then the op should contact Live ID support, and most likely prior
to an OE newsgroup or the rarely active Live ID newsgroup.

I.e. rather than send the op to a newsgroup, it would be more appropriate to direct to Windows Live ID support.

Windows Live ID Support
https://support.live.com/eform.aspx?productKey=wlid&ct=eformts
1. Scroll to and click on any item in the left hand pane FAQ list (e.g. How do I create a strong password)
2. Look in the lower right and click on the option 'Get More Help'
3. Wait till the page loads, then click on 'Get Support'
- the eform should now load

Sorry Winston,
I was wrong, I'll remove that dumb post and avoid future clutter.
I should just be happy I finally figured out how to shut off the HTML for
the newsgroups. Is there anything else I should do to be better?

No problem..

I just didn't want someone with possible multiple issues to try something unnecessary(with an expectation of resolution) and/or
bounced around to different newsgroups when the question involved 4 different products(OE/WLM/Hotmail/IE) and a Live ID.
