I want to change from OE to Outlook 2007 in order to import hotmail to there.
I have read abt having to enter the codes in the HIP boxes in order to send.
Is this only IN Hptmail or in Outlook 2007 as well? I do not want to have to
enter codes.

HIP verification is not an ongoing requirement to send. It may be required on occasion to verify the account. It is accessible by
logging in to mail.live.com or account.live.com. If one finds that any email client setup doesn't function, logon to the
aforementioned sites, if a Hip request is necessary, that may be all that is required to restore functionality. I have seen the HIP
request once in the last year. It is common to see it when exporting a Hotmail accounts contacts to a csv file in the web
interface(contacts.live.com)

How are you accessing Hotmail in OE(pop3 or http) ?

Grandfathered free Hotmail(hotmail.com, msn.com) accounts, Hotmail Plus(hotmail.com and msn.com), Msn Premium(msn.com) and Msn
dialup(msn.com) appear to be still capable of using the WebDAV server(s). Grandfathering of accounts ended in 2004.

All Hotmail accounts can be accessed using
a. Pop3/Smtp protocol/servers
b. Http(DeltaSync) using the Outlook Connector(an add-in for Outlook 2003/2007)

Servers are:

Http:
DeltaSync(Live.com, Msn.com, Hotmail.com)
http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx
http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v1.0.0/sync.aspx

OE/OL02/OL03/OL07 - Msn.com
http://oe.msn.msnmail.hotmail.com/cgi-bin/hmdata

OE/OL02/OL03/OL07 - Hotmail.com
http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp
or
http://oe.hotmail.com/secure/hmdata (old server and normally only works for
pre CY2002 accounts)

Pop3/Smtp (Windows Live Mail/Outlook/Windows Mail/Outlook Express)

Hi, ss98662.

In addition to Winston's advice, note that this newsgroup is for Windows
Live Mail. This is not the best place to find support for either OE or
Outlook.

just to add, HIP is a Hotmail issue whether you're accessing your
Hotmail account in e-mail clients (OE, OL, WLM) or thru web UI.

it also has a threshold on when you would get HIP'd (new users would
get HIP'd often, no of messages being sent). you can contact the Hotmail
team (windowslivehelp.com) for more info.

HIP? Is that what all others call CAPTCHA?
Sigh. Why does Microsoft have to use a different terminology...

I thought HIP was Host Intrusion Prevention, or if not that then HIP is that
which precedes HOP,

BTW - CAPTCHA was nicked from RAP.
