The error message means you are using an obsolete version of
the email client. You need to upgrade to the latest version (12.0.1365).
Get it here: http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas

i have the latest version installed (1365) and still get an error msg, but
my error msg occurs when I attempt to download folders right after creating
an hotmail account. Here is my error msg:

Windows Live Mail can't connect to the Hotmail server. To send and receive
messages in your Hotmail account, go to http://hotmail.live.com on the Web,
or try again later.

After a Hotmail account is first set up, I think it needs to be activated first
by checking it on the web. Also, older Hotmail accounts need to upgraded
to the 'Live' version. You may have to restart Windows Live Mail a couple
of times before it syncs with the web version of the Hotmail account.

Gary,

I had installed version 1365 a month ago or so. I got an initial error msg
about two weeks ago, deleted the account, re-installed and it worked. then a
couple of days ago the error msgs started again. I deleted the hotmail
acount, installed but NOW am unable to download folders for the hotmail
account. I don't have any older hotmail accounts on either of my machines -
how do I 'activate' hotmail?

here is another error msg i get sometimes. I don't know 'Server Response:
User has maxed out their sync relationship quota' means and it says
'DeltaSync_v2.0.0' - when I chk the properties of the hotmail account - the
server is listed as 'DeltaSync_v1.0.0'

Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail (shan8299) account. To
view messages in your Hotmail account, go to http://hotmail.live.com on the
Web. To get help from Windows Live Customer Support, go to
http://support.live.com and click Windows Live Mail in the list of services.

Server Error: 3206
Server Response: User has maxed out their sync relationship quota

Server: 'http://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x8DE00002

i use the WLinstaller.exe, which installs a series of programs including
live email. All the other programs work. I"ve tried many work arounds,
lower security, uninstalling email, deleting all associated directory and
editting reg.. stilll error msg.

when I hope hotmail live via internet explorer - no problem, works fine.

I have to think that there is something happening on the MS side of the
hotmail house that is causing all these errors everyone is reporting.

I don't think there is currently any fix for the "User has maxed out
their sync relationship quota" error, except to wait it out. Microsoft
is working on that bug. About all you can do is file trouble reports
at https://support.live.com/default.aspx?productkey=wlmaildesktop

I've had this problem before and I got so annoyed I unistalled the program. So I decided to try again and the error massage reads:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Hotmail (melt_the_plastics) account. Windows Live Mail can't connect to the Hotmail server. To send and receive messages in your Hotmail account, go to http://hotmail.live.com on the Web, or try again later.

Very Simple Answer to this problem, simply remove the hotmail account by
deleting it. Then simply add new email address and re-enter your hotmail
details, Hotmail resync's with server.

I'm getting the same error message as the one posted by users above. This happened after a system crash (even though I don't think WLM was running). I tried deleting the Hotmail account, re-downloading and re-installing WLM, doing a system restore from a point before the crash. Nothing worked.

Alternately, you might want to try hotmail set-up as pop3 accounts.
Also, lately there have been issues with the online servers.
