Does anyone have a suggestion for the following problem?

All of a sudden yesterday I could no longer download my e-mail from my POP3
server account. The error messages currently have the numbers 800CCC90 and
800CCC92. I am repeatedly asked for my password which is already entered in
the account but I re-enter it and it still does not work. After quite a few
attempts, I moved my inbox mail to a temp storage folder and I removed the
account and then I set it up again. It still does not work. I have tried
communicating with my service provider and I'm waiting for a reply. In the
meantime I read some posts in this news group that indicated other folks are
having the same or similar problems so I am beginning to suspect the problem
is with Windows Live Mail and not the service provider.

Who is your mail service provider? If it is Yahoo, do you have
a free account or a Mail Plus premium account?
Also, it helps if you give us a verbatim copy of the complete error
message. Right-click on your error message, copy, then paste it
into a reply here.

When you click cancel after the repeated prompts, what does the full
error message say?

If this was working and suddenly stopped working without any changes on
your end, it is most likely a temporary problem on the server's end.

The verbatim copy of the error message with the exception of my e-mail
address is below:

"Unable to send or receive messages for the ********@embarqmail.com account.
An incorrect password was entered. The next time you send or receive
messages, you'll be asked to enter your user name and password for this
account.

Server Error: 0x800CCC90
Server Response: -ERR Invalid login or password
Server: 'pop.embarqmail.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC92
Protocol: POP3
Port: 110
Secure(SSL): No"

I substituted astericks where my address was because I do not use this
address in News Groups for reasons of privacy and anti-spamming.

Thank you for your reply and another similar reply. Will look forward to
your analysis/suggestions. Meanwhile, Embarq has replied that they received
my e-mail and will have a further reply soon, or words to that effect.

The Invalid password error message can mean that any of the following
are wrong:
- POP3 server name
- Incoming Mail Server E-mail User Name (some require the full e-mail
address us...@somewhere.com, others just want the user part)
- Incoming Mail Server Password (often case sensitive)
- Incorrect use of Secure Password Authentication (SPA) or APOP - few
severs use this
- Incorrect use of SSL - few servers use this, but it's becoming more
common
- The mail server is having temporary problems
- Anti-Virus scanning e-mail or anti-spam program interfering with the
mail server logon
Check these settings in Windows Live Mail at Tools, Accounts, Mail,
Properties, Servers (Advanced tab for SSL). Check with your mail
service (generally your ISP) for the correct values. If the values seem
correct, retype them and click APPLY.

All or most of my messages, including many (100s) that I had previously
downloaded and had stored in storage folders, two days ago after my previous
news group post. Since then I have been busy trying to sort them all out,
but in any case my password is now being accepted. I have not yet seen a
reply from the provider concerning what happened and what they are doing. I
have the account set to delete messages after I delete them and so far I
have seen only a few where I suspect I deleted the original and it was
re-downloaded. I suspect though that I made a mistake in trying to fix the
problem by removing the account and re-entering it (perhaps, if I had left
it alone, the download of duplicate e-mails would not have occurred. Is this
correct?

Yes, deleting an account, and then recreating it can cause duplicate
emails to be downloaded, but it should only happen for older messages.

I though that deleting an account also deleted the downloaded email or does
that only apply to pop accounts?

All the downloaded e-mails had been moved to storage folders before
removing/deleting the account. So they were saved, many in sub folders where
they had been moved by message rules during the original download. What I do
not quite understand is, I have more than one "deleted items folder" and
does the setting for the account "to delete from server after deleted from
Windows Live" or words to that effect apply to deleted items folder under
Storage or only the deleted items under the Account?

Thank you! That explains why so many duplicates were downloaded. I store
many messages, and when I did clean them out, they were deleted and then the
storage folder deleted items was "emptied." From now on I hope, after
cleaning out storage folders, I remember to move the deleted items to the
account 'deleted items' and then empty it.

Yes, but the OP saved his Inbox mail to a storage folder
before deleting the account, then he re-imported.
