How do one insert a animated GIF file into a e-mail message using WLM ?
I can insert a animated GIF file as a inline image but it looses animation.
In OE it always remained animated.
What gives ?

I have no problem inserting an animated gif. Insert it inline and click on
send, then look in your sent items folder and open the message and it should
be animated.

Just insert it into a HTML email, and send it.
Many of the Vista programs, like Windows Explorer, Photo Gallery, WLM, no
longer show animated gif files.
I just sent a test message to myself, and I was able to see an animated gif
in both Thunderbird and in WLM (show HTML). WLM seems to show them in a
received message, but not in a compose message.

Everyone is correct. When composing it does not show as animated but when viewed either as a sent message folder or in a received message it does show.
Just strange that it doesn't show when composing.

Thanks everyone

Hi, JJ.

> Just strange that it doesn't show when composing.

The Compose window is for composing. ;^} Some other things that work when
we are Reading messages also won't work when we are Composing them. When we
type an URL into an email or news post, it also is dead - until we Send the
message. Or we can Save it in Drafts, then Open it to test the link, which
will work from there.

I haven't used WinXP or OE in a while, but as I recall, it works the same
way.

Everyone is not correct. I've tried every way in the book to send an
animated inline image using Windows Live Mail, but IT DOESN'T WORK. Forget
the "Compose" window . . . it doesn't animate in the Sent folder when I send,
the Received folder when I send to myself, or in their Received folder when I
send to someone else. Every .gif I've tried is flat as a pancake in every
window and on every computer you can possibly view it. I've never once had
this trouble with Outlook Express. I'm so annoyed I'm ready to uninstall WLM
and go back! :P

Even a signature in WML can't be animated. The two file choices are text or
HTML. Huh? How is this better than OE?? Don't answer that. All I'd really
like answered is how to get an inline .gif to remain animated for this
Wiindows XP user. Is there an answer?? From what I've read here and Googled
everywhere else, there doesn't seem to be one, though I'm hoping otherwise.
Thanks in advance for your help!

View the post in Html..
A functional animated inline image and a animated signature file(both gif extensions) sent to this newsgroup after validated by
sending to a pop3 and http email account viewable in WLM. The latter's(sig file) path/filename can easily be inserted in an htm
files code. The htm file is then used as the source of a signature in the WLM signature configuration option. The Htm file and the
gif file are stored in the same folder.

I.e. It works..

Hi, Winston!

View what post in HTML?

I get the second part of what you're saying, about adding some sort of HTML
command. However, I have no idea how to find this command when nothing I
send animates (to Hotmail or any POP3 account) in the first place, nor can I
seem to find the View Source capability we had with OE. Nor am I emailing
this group . . . I'm posting via a popup window in IE.

Still need help, please. Gotta say, though, even with whatever fix, this is
WAY more annoying than OE. Nobody should have to go through these kinds of
hoops to put a darn .gif in an email! I am so frustrated I could scream.
Did I also mention WLM crashes all the time? And that it won't fully end
when I exit, hanging my system just about every day?

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL! And thanks!

Thank you, Winston! Now I understand what you were trying to say. It read
to me like HTML "file", instead of basically using HTML to "remote link" from
my hard drive. I'll give it a shot and see how I do. It's still going to be
a PITA, though, because it sounds like we'll have to redo the HTML file and
save the intended graphic in a place not normally used for storage each time.

This would be a really great bug to fix!! You may not see it as anything
wrong, but I know I'm not alone in my thoughts. "User-friendly" should be
key. Especially when WML is supposed to be newer, better, and considered an
upgrade to OE, where that feature worked perfectly, with nothing more than a
couple of clicks.

Thanks again!

I am spoiled by Outlook-just insert the animated graphic and it makes my old
Mom laugh. Live will only "attach" it! I eagerly await resolution of this
dilemma! Deirdre

Works the same way in Outlook.
- Html is required to insert a pic; plain text only provides attach.
