Your settings are wrong. Here are the ones for Yahoo Plus:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html
and for bog-standard AOL:
http://postmaster.aol.com/imap/express.html

If you follow these slavishly, it should work. Good luck!

Thank you for the information! I got it to work for AOL! Unfortunately, it
did not fix my problem with Yahoo. I have updated the setting. Now the
error I get with Yahoo is:

Unable to send or receive messaged for the Yahoo (username) account. The

connection to the server has failed.

Server: 'plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com'

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
Protocol: POP3

Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes
Socket Error: 10060

Any other suggestions?? Thank you!

Thank you. I do have a paid Yahoo account. I reviewed the links you
provided and I have everything set up correctly, but it still doesn't work!
I'm still getting the same error. My hotmail and AOL are syncing with no
problems. I'm open to any other suggestions. Thanks!

Under the settings for Outlook Express, it says
On the "Servers" tab, ensure that you have not checked "Log on Using Secure
Password Authentication" in the Incoming Mail Server section or "My Server
Requires Authentication" in the Outgoing Mail Server area.

On the "Advanced" tab, ensure that you have not selected "This Server
Requires a Secure Connection (SSL)" under the Incoming (POP3) or Outgoing
(SMTP) Port settings.

You logged in to your Yahoo account and set it up for pop?

Which antivirus are you running? With some of them you will need to turn
email scanning off. For more on this see

I am reasonably certain that Yahoo! is moving POP3 to work with port 995,
and requires selection of SSL. I don't have a U.S. paid account to play
with, but I do have a co-branded ISP account, and a free Yahoo! Japan
account. Both work with port 995 and SSL.

I am using Symantec. This is my company's laptop and all of the selections
on the "Internet E-mail Auto-Protect" page in Symantec are greyed out.
However, most are unchecked. I don't know if that tells you anything...

thanks!

The settings page I posted yesterday gives the following:
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL, port:
995)
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Use SSL,
port: 465, use authentication)
Account Name/Login Name: Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address
without the "@yahoo.com")
Email Address: Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g., us...@yahoo.com)
Password: Your Yahoo! Mail password

So, SSL all round and authentication to send. Another pitfall is the
Account Name - it /says/ 'without the @yahoo.com'.

The above link must have a mistake on several of the email program setups,
because it says not to check SSL.
The main point is do not check any of the authentication settings on the
server tab.

Yes, I noticed that. Some pages there are clearly older than others.
It does say somewhere, though, that if you're having problems with
POP or SMTP to turn SSL off and use ports 110/25 or 587, so perhaps
that's what the OP should try next. Increasing the timeout wouldn't
hurt, either.

Indeed; SSL all around.

As for the authentication, I have successfully used just the name part, and
even Yahoo! Personal Profile IDs associated with accounts; except for the
co-branded ISP sub accounts. Those are not in the 'yahoo.com' domain, and
the domain name must be specified in order not to be confused with similar
user names in the 'yahoo.com' domain: I.e., I need to sign in as
'%User_ID%@pacbell.net' in order not to be confused with
'%User_ID%@yahoo.com', or any of the other legacy AT&T domain names.
