Periodically during send/receive, mail will display a flash screen asking
for my user code and password. I'll enter it and things will continue
normally. It happens enough that it can become annoying because sometimes
the auto send/receive will sit unattended waiting for a response when I'm
away from my computer. Is there someway to prevent this from happening. It
occurs maybe 1 out of 10 times. Thanks

Intermittent problems like that are using on the mail server. The
validation service is having problems, possibly because it is
overloaded.

Complain to the mail service, although it may not do much good.

I get a similar flash screen from a Lycos account during send/receive but
although I fill in the correct information there is still no access. However,
if I run send/receive in Outlook Express there is no problem
downloading/uploading from the same account ???. Account information is
exactly the same on both email clients.

I can't tell where you're posting from, but as far as I know Lycos
in Europe only offer HTTP mail access using the WebDAV protocol.
This is what OE uses to access Hotmail, for example. WLMail doesn't
support WebDAV, so the only way of collecting Lycos mail is by using
a proxy like FreePOPs ( http://freepops.org ).

Noel,
Thanks for prompt reply. I am posting from the UK.
All a bit above my head but now I understand why I'm having the trouble.
Are there a lot of different protocols ?. I will put the question to WLM and
ask why they don't support it as before.
However, I will explore possibilities through freepops.
Cheers

There are four common protocols: POP, SMTP, IMAP, and HTTP.
There are also some others that are now seldom used. WebDAV is
one of the flavors of the HTTP protocol, and not the one Microsoft
is now trying to persuade users to use.
