The issue is as follows:
When clicking Start>Control Panel>Other Control Panel
Options>Mail>Mail Setup-Outlook
It gives the following:
Email accounts
Data files
Profiles
When I check on email accounts it gives this:
Add new account (checked)
View or change existing accounts
I clicked next and it gave me another screen listing which type of
server
my email account will work with.
Microsoft exchange server
Pop3
Imap
http
additional server types
I selected http because it said : Connect to http e-mail server such
as
Hotmail to download e-mail and synchronize mailbox folders.
I then clicked next
It gave me an error message that says: This feature requires the
outlook express
Component of Microsoft internet explorer version 5.0 or newer. Would
you like to download a newer vesion of Internet explorer now?
I have IE7, nevertheless I tried this and it came back with no updates
found.
I then went back and selected view or change existing email accounts
and clicked next
It had my old isp provider email account there which I haven't used in
over 3 years
so I deleted it, and now only shows the Add button highlighted, all
others are grayed out. When I clicked Add, it takes me to the screen
to select server type again:
Microsoft exchange server
Pop3
Imap
http
additional server types
I selected http once again and clicked next and it gave me the same
error as before.
I then backed out to the beginning and checked under data files:
It had one entry named Personal Folders, I opened it and it showed an
icon which said:
Outlook.pst office data file - when I clicked the icon to open it to
see what it was it said:
These files are used by the operating system and by various programs.
Editing or modifying them could damage your system. So I closed it.
I then backed out to the beginning again and under Profile clicked
Show Profiles
It opened a General screen and says the following profiles are set up
on this computer:
below that it has Outlook highlighted in blue and below that it has
Add, Remove, Properties, Copy, and below that it has
Prompt for a profile to be use
Always use this profile (checked)
then below this is a window with a drop down arrow but the only
selection available is
Outlook. If I click on prompt for a profile to be used then this area
becomes grayed out.
With the above information given can someone please help me to set
this up so that
Hotmail is used and the Set-Up functions normally?
Thank you,

No, I'm not trying to set up Hotmail in Outlook, if you please re-read
my
post you'll see that isn't the case. I'm trying to set up Hotmail in
my Mail
Set-up program under 'Other Control Panel Options' I have Hotmail
already set up in Windows Live Mail. The only reason I posted this
was
because I saw my old ISP Email sitting in Mail Setup when it shouldn't
have been there because I haven't used it in over 3 years and thought
that it might be conflicting with my Hotmail and causing some of the
issues I've been having. Otherwise why would it give me the option of
what type of server to use which included HTTP and mentioned Hotmail?
Robert
Now I don't have a 'Other Control Panel Options' but I do have a 'Mail'
applet in Control Panel, and I happen to know for a fact that it is
only for Outlook. Someone who is more familiar with that Mail applet
than me should be able to answer your questions about it.
My gut feeling is that it has no bearing whatsoever on your Hotmail issue.
Note: It is customary to leave all previous conversations in a thread so
that if some other responder jumps in late, they can easily review what
transpired before.

When I hover the cursor over Mail, the balloon says 'Microsoft Outlook
Profiles'.
I don't have a Other Control Panel Options either.

On XP, the 'Other Control Panel options' - if there are any - appear in the
left-hand pane if you (a) don't have Folders selected in the toolbar, and
(b) you're in Category view rather than Classic.

I have Control Panel expand from the Start Menu, so I never use Category
view.

Me too. I was just curious and went hunting - thought you might be
interested in what I found.
