Afraid they’ll take advantage

When composing emails and posts, I keep getting strange characters as above.
I think it has to do with encoding, but I can not find a way to change it.

Under Tools, Send, International Settings is set to Western European
(Windows)

Under View, Encoding is set to Western European (Windows)

Can anyone please tell me what I am missing?

Thank you

Are you seeing that in NEW e-mails and posts, or just in Replies?

If New ones, that shouldn't happen Unless you are doing a copy/paste of
text from another program.

If a Reply, are you seeing that quoted text from the original message?
That can happen depending on the encoding used by the original
sender/poster.

It was a new post made to a news group. When I copied it, it looked fine,
but when it showed up on the group "they’ll" showed up. It does not
seem to happen in mail or posts I receive, just what I send. It was a
copy/paste from a Word doccument! What can I do to stop it?

There has been a ghost in the keyboard for a while now, and I can not find a
fix. In the above example the original word was they'll and the apostrophe
seems to be the problem.

Thank you

Ensure encoding is set to Western European(Windows)
Tools/Options/Read/Fonts/ then set as Default
and
'Use Default encoding for all incoming messages'
Tools/Options/Read/International Settings

Thanks, Winston.

I hope this cures the problem. It is one of those niggley little things that
causes irritation.

I've seen it occasionally, configuring encoding works for most. Though I suspect there are some unique situations where it may not.
