A workaround that works for me and many others is to create a News Rule that
says simply:
Apply this rule after the message arrives
For all messages
Highlight it with Default
Many prefer to highlight with Black, but I like to use Default. You can try
both and see which works best for you.

Not lacking. Just different.
I have several Mail Rules, but this is my ONLY News Rule. So I did not
bother to check the "Stop processing more rules" box. Also, I did not
experiment with other settings. To get YOUR rules customized to fit the way
YOU use WLM, you'll need to learn a little more about how the Rules work.

Going backwards to version 12 will be at least as much hassle for you as
going forward by learning what you need to know about version 14. And then
you will still have this part of the learning curve ahead of you, rather
than behind you.
